Villians Ideas

Yeah yeah...we all know Disney would never take the chance to scare the...well, you know,.. out of people at the Magic Kingdom..Thats what Disney MGM is for!

but...what if the Kingdom did have a dark side (as the rumours suggest)..what's your vision?

At nighttime, forget the cliche iron gates and all that. Imagine that the land is encased like Mermaid Lagoon at TOKYO DISNEY SEAS...

Rising behind the 20k lagoon is what looks like..Bald Mountain..or at least an artistic revision of it. A twisted rock formation covering teh land behind the Magic Kingdom.

You enter a dark, Vulcania like cavern where Ariel's Grotto used to be (still is, but not in my vision) and adjacent to the 20k lagoon. The tunnel is dark and twisting, like the Tom Sawyer island caverns or the Splash Mountain queue area. The cavern has several gaping holes, where various villianous sidekicks slither by (Kaa, Flotsam and Jetsam from Mermaid (ala Tokyo Disney Seas), the crocodiles from the Rescuers and Peter Pan, etc.) The cavern eventually opens up into a dark, stormy environment (like the nightime effect in the MExico pavillion) Ichabod and his horse are cowering in a nearby wooded grotto as frightening voices rise from the woods. Gaston is heard somewhere, awakng the villagers to go kill the beast.

First stop: The Tavern.
Heres where men tell tall tales, or occasionally sing a happy song. Tavern guests are treated to renditions of "Gaston" and "the Headless Horseman" song from "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", and various storytellers tell their ghost stories in the low lit environment. Lightning strikes outside (like the Tiki Room effect).

Second Stop: The Grotto
In Blue Bayou lit amphitheatre, a cauldron boils before the audience. Wolves howl in the nearby woods as the crowd walks in by the light of the moon and the burning, hanging cauldrons. Suddenly, cackling is heard in the distance. It gets louder, and louder, then suddenly, a strobe goes off and the Wicked Queen from Snow White appears. She begins to tell us to beware of the horrible "good" that is in the world, or people white as snow, and fair maidens locked away in castles, and mice who can talk. At the height of her speech, voices are heard, and she disappears, as the BELLE'S Father, the inventor, arrives, looking for a way out of the woods after the inventor's convention. The witch sees him, and sends out the wolves (eyes appear in the nearby woods and scare the inventor and his cart away) Suddenly, Belle appears, searching for her father, and she tells the audience how they can help defeat the evil, by believing in the good in the world. After a little act of audience participation, the evil witch is defeated, and the area lights up brightly with a warm glow.

The Lagoon
In the far section of the land, there's a broken down Ferry boat (The Rescuers) and the back of Monstro, the whale. You board little pods and embark on an excursion through the sea. First, you are drifting through the palace of King Triton, looking at the exotic jewels, your hear (maybe even see) Ariel singing. Then, you exit the palace, and travel down a dark tunnel to Ursula's lair, where you pass the POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS who could not fill their contracts with Ursula. They seem to surround the pod in multitudes, filling up the glass viewfinder. Then, you see Ursula at her cauldron. She spots you, and tells you you will never see the light of day, and sends you drifting into the mouth of Monstro. The cavern becomes the insides of the whale. You pass whale ribs, ancient ships, etc. Suddenly, the whale sneezes and sends you hurtling upward. You find yourself floating past Kida, who beckons you onward, past the sleeping LEVIATHAN. You travel into the Eye of the King of Atlantis, where the ancient masks of the Kings of Atlantis float in mid-air.

Then something goes wrong again. You find your only way out is through a dormant volcano, until, the volcano blows! You are sent spiraling upward through the chasm, and back through the "Greasetrap" to the surface world.

There is so much to do with this land, I'm sure you gents and ladies will think of plenty of ideas. Jafar, Hades, Scar, Maleficient..so many villains so little time!!!

I agree, you need to cut it down to the popular ones.

The water thing wont work because the only obvious villian in that is Ursela. The Grotto is a good idea, only expound it some. And the Tavern is a pretty good idea, though rather limited.

I personally want to see Malificient's Castle, an evil version of the Cinderella one right in front of it. Inside could be a dark ride based on Sleeping Beauty (think SW Scary Adventure, only this one really is scary).

I also want to see a water-coaster like Journey to Atlantis, only called escape from Bald Mountain, themed to the Bald Mountain thing.

The big thing in this area though needs to just be a stage show with all the classic villian songs, the ones you dont hear that much now.

Actually the idea is easily expandable into a whole park. The public is familiar with enough of the Villains that there could be a number of them portrayed. I agree the problem is with just a land though that only the extremely popular ones can be represented. With a whole separate park though, this would be a way for Disney to counterbalance, and hopefully gain a stronger hold in the teen market. Now not that a Villains park would need to be extremely frightening nor would it have to be all thrill rides, rather a ratio of 3 thrill rides : 1 gentle ride, would balance out things for timid riders that still enjoy villains, as well the thrill rides could also be built on an intensity spectrum, thereby having a few kiddish coasters up to monsters and everything in-between once again not to completely shut out different demographics. This may limit the park to about 6 and up but then again MK is rather limited to most 12 and down. So I really don't think there would be any necessary exclusion, which is an often fear of a venture of this nature.

I don't think that a 'Teen Thrill park' centered DIRECTLY on Villains would really work..Teens would start to feel 'disney-ed out' after awhile, since many don't much care for disney (shame on them!)

Make it part of a new park, and make it a MAJOR land (Like fantasy land for MK..

Then come up with some original ideas....

An entire land centered around Atlantis..
Proffesor twist's Circus
Trench City: A 'Dirty' city, full of thugs and such

This would balance the theme park a bit more, and give more options for different rides, and allow more theming..It could still be called something like
"Dark Kingdom" or "Tragic Kingdom" or "Shadow Kingdom"
(Although I like Tragic the most, I'm a no doubt fan, and it rhyms with Magic)
Because Magic Kingdom's Fantasy land is the only true *MAGIC KINGDOM* (due to it's fairy tale setting), and yet it still has other different lands, this dark park would be the same.

And Sketch, Those were some great ideas! The lagoon, does, need some work though. The rest was great! I like the stage show, but I agree it needs to be expanded on..Maybe have a bunch of different scenes like the belle one, sorta have an opposite fantasmic..where we see into the queen's imagination..only everytime something bad happens, good triumphs, and she bust out with smoke..
"ENOUGH! Ruined AGAIN!" or somehting and moves on to the next scene...

As for the lagoon, I had an idea awhile back that combined a water ride with the technology form spider-man..A 3-d/raft water ride/coaster...It actually was centered around stumbling into the Villans lair, too..Maybe you could use that? Then it would TRULY be a centerpiece attraction!

True, true, true, but the idea was that it would not be a Teen thrill park, the idea was that it would be a family park with a thrill edge. And while Teens may not much care for the Disney Villains theme, I would project that most teens would not care what the theme is as long as the rides are going to offer a thrilling experience, and if you then tie in the Disney magic and elaborate theming, I think you could actually get many teens hooked on the experience, even if they would not admit that it is Disney. I actually have designed such a park as I have proposed and it really only has 5 coasters that would be considered high thrill rides, and only 3 of those are any thing more intense then RnRc, basically just where as MK has a spectrum of rides ranging from say 1-8, 1 being a dark ride and 8 being say Space Mountain on an intensity scale with a numerous of rides in between this park would range mostly and say a 4-10 intensity scale with a few 1-3 rides but as I said the ratio would be 1:3 gentle to thrill.

I also do like the Tragic Kingdom idea and think the same goal could be easily achieved, however I think it might be pretty hard to eventually theme all of the rides, beyond Villains, I think it would be kinda hard for the Disney label to be put on anything too dark and evil. :fork:

I still think Teens would get tired of Disney stuff..I think ANYONE would get tired of EVERY ride being themed after a movie or something, and I also think Imagineers know this, because you have a bunch of orginal rides with no movie behind them.

As for dark and evil....Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror were about as 'Dark and Evil' as I was going to get..Nothing with killing or gory violence.

Oh come now! You're just not using your imagination :) I just started thinking about this early this morning, and I've got a few concepts running through my head, I'm sure you could come up with something

Okay fine, so the more I think about it would be very plausible, over the course of the day I too, have come up with several ideas as well, but I still think and all villains park would be possible, actually I think what I have developed is very similar to what you are proposing in a Tragic Kingdom. Each land has a different overall dark theme, but yes most, not all rides are themed after a certain villain; but some are more or less themed around a general theme which a Villain represent Anyway I see great potential in both concepts.

I think the villian's area is a great idea. Why couldn't it be like an opposite of Toon Town where all the Villian's live together? Have the "houses" of the most popular villians. They could even move the villian's meet and greet to this area. Have a City Hall and everything.

Or how about going one step further, make it a Halloweenland. A place where all the ghosts and goblins and Disney baddies go to hang out. Like a year-round version of Disneyland Paris' Halloweenland Festival.
