Villain Cakes on Food Network

I flipped on the TV today halfway through a food network competition called villain cakes. Apparently, five individuals spent seven hours each designing a cake modeled after prominent Disney villains (Scar, Cruella De Vil, Captain Hook, Ursula, and Jafar). I think the competition was held at MGM, with the awards in front of Cinderella's castle in MK. Pretty amazing cakes; definitely worth watching. It was not available On Demand in our area.

Sorry if this has been posted, I did a search and found nothing...

I was going to comment on how good the winner's looked, but I didn't want to ruin the ending... But yeah, I agree.

My wife and I are huge Food Network Challenge fans, and we were wondering one thing when watching it: How did we not know they were filming it at WDW?! Wish we could've been there for it. I won't give away the winner, but this showcased some of the best cake decorators on the planet (Bronwen Weber, Richard Ruskell, Mike McCarey). Check out Mike McCarey's web page and be amazed. www.mikesamazingcakes.com

We're big fans, too, and were wondering where in MGM they could have filmed this? BTW, I'm always amazed with what Bronwen Weber and Mike McCarey come up with...they seem to be heads and shoulders above the rest. Wouldn't it have been cool if Duff was there, too?

Anyone have any idea what theater that that was taped in? First I thought it was a hotel ballroom, but the seats loked like they were fixed theater seats.

I thought it may have been filmed in MGM somewhere, but is it possible it was filmed in the old Millennium pavilion in Epcot? If I'm correct (and I'm probably not), I think they've done Food Network Challenge in there before.

You are correct, they did use the Millennium pavilion for a challenge before, as well as for a "Behind the Bash" episode. However, for the Villain's challenge, they specifically said (at the beginning) this was taking place at Disney MGM Studios. At least, I thought that's what they said...my wife thinks so, too...

It was filmed in the old ABC theater and the results were then as you saw said near the castle in the rose garden. The jafar one YIkes what was she thinking! The Mufasa one, yeah not so much like him. the other three were good but not as good as that hook one! My fav!

Do you know what the previous challenges were? (Looks like I'll be heading over to MouseBits!)

Also, Rand fan? I love her philosophy and literature... I have a shirt that says "Who is John Galt?" and people always ask, "well, who is he?" From my experience with the shirt, not many people have read the book.

The only other challege that I saw was a sugar sculpture...

We were there the day it was going on 2 days ago. Those cakes were amazing, the captain hook was done perfectly.

It had to be more than two days ago. I taped the show last Sunday night, June 10th. Was it for another show, perhaps?
And yeah, the only one that even deserved to win was the guy who did Captain Hook/Smee. None of the others even came close to looking like what they were supposed to be. His was like a scene from the movie. For professional cake designers I was stunned at how bad the others looked. I'm not saying I could do better, but considering some of the things I've seen some of those people do on other shows, their cakes were a real disappointment.
It was also definitely at Disney/MGM. They announced it at the beginning.
Oh, and the other challenge was a sugar one as disneytopdog mentioned. They had to create things based on Disney World attractions.
