Viewing Illuminations from Rose & Crown

From what I understand, Rose & Crown has a small viewing area so that their patrons can watch the Illuminations show. We were originally planning on making ADRs here for that specific reason. After thinking long & hard about that, I just don't think it will work for our family because we are such early eaters. Dinner for us is usually about 4:00. I just can't see us eating a large meal that late in the day. My question is, do patrons of the Rose & Crown Pub portion of the restaurant have access to the same viewing area or is it just the restaurant customers? Sitting in a pub and having a drink or two while waiting for the show is quite more appealing than staking out a piece of sidewalk and guarding it for an hour to get a "good seat" for Illuminations. Also, is the Pub portion of the area off limits to kids? We will have 2 teens with us, obviously not drinking, but if they can't be in the Pub, that idea won't work either. Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

Kids are allowed in R&C but patrons of the R&C pub do not get to use the viewing area, it is reserved for guests dining during Illuminations only!

Thanks, Crush. Not the answer I wanted to hear, but better to find out now, then waiting until I get there. Now I just have to figure out another alternative.

If you are gonna be in Epcot anyway why not get something small to eat elsewhere in wirld showcase about 3pm and then eat dinner at R&C about 7:45pm??

I think that's kind of the thought I am leaning towards right now, Crush. I've done the whole "waiting for an hour on the sidewalk" routine before, and I'm not a big fan of that. ;)

I suppose for one night it's not that big of a deal to get a little something to hold us over, around our normal dinner time then have a late dinner at R & C.

What's the best time to "try" to get an ADR for dinner if my whole intent is to be there for Illuminations? I was thinking around 8:15-8:30. Would that be about right?

7:45 or 7:50 usually does the trick for us ;)

The Rose and Crown pub does have a small garden area, probably about 12 tables. Goodness only knows what time you'd need to be there for Illuminations. By far the best way is to book a table for dinner. When you check in tell them you are prepared to wait for a lake view seat. Also when you make your reservation, do mention anything you happen to be celebrating (birthday etc) as this can help.

If you can it's worth it to eat late that one day for the viewing! It's so nice. We has ADR last year at 8:05 and timing was perfect. Had dinner, watched Illuminations then had dessert! Perfect ending to another perfect day! Luckily we got our ADR for the exact time this year. We really enjoyed it!

just be warned, because so many folks now know about OUR little secret, it is one of the harder reservations to get. when i get up before God on my 180 day mark to make my ressies online, cali grill is the first thing i book, then rose and crown, they fantasmic package (although these are sometimes not yet available that early). unless of course, i wants cinderella's royal table that visit....that is always first, you have to use the atomic timeclock and book at just the right second to get that one! we usually plan these hard to get ones for the end of our trip so we can jump on the 180 + 10 headstart.
bottom line, don't wait to book this if you want it

The alternative, is what we do, and have done for years. We sit in the beer garden, and normally get fish and chips unless we've eaten before leaving the hotel. My rule is we are there at 7 for a table next to the wall. It's a nice area to sit, and the pub on hand.

If you are seated inside the pub for dinner, then you will get taken outside, but its not ideal for viewing for pics and video as usually a sizeable crowd.

I still remember being able to sit in the area they have roped off, that was in the years before someone wrote about it in a guidebook. The queues into the street after that were something else, especially considering the quality of the food and menu at that point!
