Video files... which is best?

Which is the best format to use for best quality but smallest file size? RealVideo, QuickTime, or Windows Media? Not really concerned about streaming and whatnot... just want to create some reasonably sized files that have decent video quality...

I personally can't stand RealVideo, and being a mac user, don't particularly like Windows Media either. I guess that leaves Quicktime :).

Another vote for DIVX! I've been experimenting with DIVX5.05 and a new application called DrDIvx. It encodes so much faster than if you had an encode setup manually. I don't know why it operates so much faster through that program, but I am not complaining. Very decent quality on a 2-pass encode with DrDIvx/divx5.05.

Divx gets my vote. I have not played with DrDivx (see Jedi's) post but I use Nandub to do it. Great quality and you can control the size of the output. Best all around.

A nice thing about DrDivx is that it really simplifies the settings even more. It gives you the option to make 1 file at XXMB or 2 files at XXMB. It does all the calculations internally and hits the target filesize very closely. I've run into a few bugs on the software not representing the length of the video clip correctly, but I am sure the software designers will work out those over time. :)
