VGF Resort Studio: No Mini Kitchen??

Even though sales haven't yet started, there is some information available on the official DVC website on the new "resort studios" that will be built in the refurbished Big Pine Key building. In addition to the points chart, there's a link to a room floor plan as well as a list of amenities. Nowhere on either of these do I see anything concerning the mini kitchen (refrigerator, sink. microwave, toaster) that's standard fare in DVC Studios. There's a coffee maker and a "beverage center" listed-which the website says is a cooler, not a refrigerator. Even the value resort rooms have a fridge now-so that's a real area of concern for anyone considering purchasing at VGF. If you're not at WDW in person and can't take a model room tour, you'll definitely want to ask your DVC Guide about this before laying your money down.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
I anticipate the fridge will be similar to the fridges at the GF in the regular rooms, but yes, it appears they are moving forward with a very minor renovation. Hopefully they at least re-drywall, although I’m not getting my hopes up.

A Deluxe Studio and a Resort Studio are not the same thing, and I'm not sure why anyone would expect that they would be.

Treehouse Villas and Grand Villas at Saratoga Springs both have three bedrooms, but that doesn't mean they're the same room category with the same exact amenities.

That is not correct. The thing that you think is a refrigerator is not TECHNICALLY a refrigerator.

This is not a new DVC property, they're new points at the existing VGF property. People who buy during the "VGF2" offering will have the same exact home resort booking window as existing VGF owners, including access to the VGF Deluxe Studio units.

A deluxe studio and a Resort studio are not the same thing, but if people weren’t aware of the name difference and hadn’t been following the discussion about it on forums then they wouldn’t know that.

They are different booking categories, so it’s not as if you run the risk of not getting the type of studio you want when you arrive. But because the new studios are part of the existing VGF it does mean that existing owners have some justification for wondering / worrying what impact it will have on booking. A whole lot of new owners could all want the old style studios making the competition to book them much harder than it is now.

Both of those scenarios are equally likely. Things could get easier, things could get harder, things could stay exactly the same.

You're not just adding new owners, you're also adding new inventory in equal proportion. Plus, when you consider that some percentage of the new owners will use their points at OTHER resorts, even if it's a small percentage, the inventory available to VGF owners in the home resort booking window will be favorable.

Studio is the hardest category to book and it will continue to be the hardest category to book. I don’t see the non-personal logic that they should make the less desired rooms easier to book then they are now.

Maybe they’ll overdo it… but the cards are in favour of the cheapest room options.

Not in the groups I am in. This is just a hotel room. Old DVC members seem quite annoyed at this and actually think it will put more pressure on the studios at the main DVC building.

This undoubtedly is the cheapest conversion with really little change. Even PVB was totally gutted to redo plumbing and electrical to make changes for the bathroom and mini kitchen. While it might look different the actual work required will be minimal.

A Deluxe Studio was never supposed to be "better" than a hotel room, it's just different.

I would gut every single kitchenette on property to replace them with a second queen bed if I had my way.

DVC owners talking about a "mini kitchen" are hysterical. It's not a mini kitchen. It's a shelf with some paper plates on it. I don't need a microwave because when I stay in the equivalent of an $800 hotel room, I don't eat frozen Red Baron pizzas for dinner.

If Resort Studio or Deluxe Studio prove to be more desirable than the other, Disney will adjust the points charts accordingly.

Again I disagree. Having a microwave, toaster , and mini fridge is a step up for those who actually do small meals in the room. This is totally a step down.

Nothing personal but I find it a bit much that you are calling this hysterical simply because you disagree. Not all are like you. It is called a kitchenette for a reason. Sorry I mistyped but that is a big difference from a wet bar and nothing else.

This truly is the cheapest and easiest "refurb" possible. Oh and the murphy beds are amazing to sleep on. I'd take those over 2 beds and no kitchenette any day. Most DVC owners seem to agree. We'll have dissenters but yeah the truth is this is a cheap refurb

Maybe... depends on how the other points are and how they compare with PVB in particular.

Yes, for THOSE PEOPLE it's a step down. And for people who DON'T do small meals in the room and like having two real beds, it's a step up. I genuinely can't fathom being offended by Disney offering more variety for people to choose from.

And no, this isn't cheaper. A second mattress alone costs more than the fit-out of a kitchenette would.

You do realize they need to redo wiring for a kitchenette? A mattress is not that expensive. Electricians are. So is plumbing for sinks and such. I can tell you for sure they don't always replace mattresses in a refurb like this.

Yet again the murphy beds are real beds. So that part is not even a thing for anyone. If you haven't tried one I suggest you do. This is a cheap *** refurb and we all know it.
