Veterans Day Week

Since I've been out of school for years, I had completely forgotten about Veterans Day. I'm gonna be in Cali and DL on the week of Veterans day, which I hear can be a very crowded time in the parks.

It's a unique situation this year, though, because Veterans Day falls on a Tuesday. I've got a few questions that may be a little confusing, but I'll try to explain in proper detail.

Veterans day falls on Tuesday, November 11th. I'll be arriving in Cali on Saturday the 8th, but had planned to go to the parks on Monday Nov 10th, and Tuesday Nov 11th (Veterans Day).

I realize that the area schools probably have a long weekend scheduled for Veterans day (even though I have been unable to verify this). Even though Veterans Day falls on a Tuesday, would it be safe to assume that this would probably just be a Saturday - Monday 3 day weekend?? I don't remember ever having a 4 day weekend for Veterans Day. OR, is it possible that there could be school on Monday but then 1 isolated day off on Tuesday (Veterans Day)??

I'm also assuming that even though one of my planned days in DL would be Veterans Day itself, it would be still less crowded to go on a Monday and Tuesday than it would be to go on Sunday and Monday, instead of Monday and Tuesday. Is this a safe assumption?

Hope that makes sense. Basically I wanna know how crowded it usually is around Veterans day, even though I am trying to avoid actual weekend days (ie Saturday and Sunday). Thanks!

I think I got that :)

I going to guess that schools will have a 4 day weekend since most the schools would lose to much money for all those kids that didnt show up on that Monday.

Im not sure how busy it will be though since the Holiday offerings arnt in full swing till Nov. 21 so maybe less than last year. I think last year they filmed the WDW Christmas Day parade on Vetrans Day weekend and that I think was really busy. So hopefully someone else can help.

It's always one of the busiest weekends of the year, stretching into the early weekdays after the Holiday, and it always catches people by surprise.

In recent years they have closed the main entrance and stopped selling tickets on Veterans Day Weekend, including the Monday. Just be ready for huge crowds, and lots of people complaining about all the other people that are also there on a major holiday weekend.

No one goes to Disneyland anymore, it's too crowded!

It certainly caught me by surprise. I was on the DL operating calendar today and was wondering why Monday the 10th and Tues the 11th had extended hours, 8am - midnight. I completely forgot that veterans day falls on this weekend. Oh well, I'll have to fight the crowds because that's the only week that both me and the girlfriend can go.

You think that as long as I arrive when the parks open and leave when they close, I should be able to get alot of stuff done early in the morning and late at night?

Yes. You have a good head on your shoulders and you know the layout and the Fastpass tricks and all the usual Disney Fan stuff. You'll be fine. Just take some patience for the crowds, plan out the day as best you can, and you'll be just fine.

If they really do not debut the Christmas stuff that weekend it might not be tragically busy and just fall into the "very busy" category. For the past several years they have started the Christmas season that weekend with the Holiday Magic fireworks, Small World Holiday opening, Santa's Reindeer Roundup in the Big Thunder petting zoo, Christmas decor and music all over, etc., etc. The local AP's are told via the AP Newsletter that "NOVEMBER 10TH!!!" is the day all this stuff opens and debuts, and they flood the park en masse and make the busy holiday weekend simply catastrophic.

If the AP Newsletter comes out with "NOVEMBER 22ND!!!" as the opening day for all the Christmas stuff, then Veterans Day will be spared the worst of the crowds.

I did read that it was tragicly crowded last year on veterans day. I'm hoping it won't be quite as bad this year, since veterans day fell on a sunday last year (and saturday the year before). Thus, you had the usual awful weekend crowds, PLUS all the extra veterans day crowds.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that veterans day being on Tuesday will make a slight difference.

How are the crowds during Columbus Day week/weekend?

It's very, very busy. Any major national holiday where it is convenient for you to visit Disneyland means it is also convenient for 20 Million other people living between Santa Barbara and San Diego to pop over for the day.

I don't remember them having to close the main entrance on Columbus Day weekend recently, but it is always extremely crowded. All of the fabulous HalloweenTime decor and offerings they have been piling on in recent years has made it even busier.
