Using an iPod in the parks?

I'm just wondering if there's a general consensus on this! Have any of you used your iPod in the parks? Have you seen others doing it and, if so, what did you think about it? I know a TON of people are easily irritated by people on their phones. Here's why I ask:

I'm going on my second solo trip next week and I'm seriously thinking about grabbing my earbuds to take with me. At home I'm listening to audiobooks 99% of the time when I'm not actively doing something. In the car, brushing my teeth, cooking, I'm listening to an audiobook. So I'm thinking I might just keep listening in the parks since I'll be by myself anyway. It's not like I'll have anyone with me to ignore.

Thoughts?

I've seen quite a few people with headphones. It doesn't bother me, unless I can hear what they are listening to.

I do tend to wonder why they have headphones on in say the Tower of Terror queue, instead of listening to the attraction surroundings.

Oh, I definitely agree! I would only be using them on the bus, walking through the parks, maybe even while eating lunch, etc.

I agree with wdwmagic, go ahead and bring the headphones. I am only bothered by other people's headphones if I hear what they are listening to.

I bring mine all the time. good to have if your killing time waiting for fireworks, parade, etc. depending where u are in the parks, might have to jack up the volume a bit.

Who cares what other people think of you? If you're not hindering anyone else, do it!

I don't know...isn't part of the experience and best part of being in the Parks is listening to the ambient background music loops and it being harmonious to the specific land/area that you're in at the time?

Personally, it isn't for me. I think back to all the interesting people I have met and spoken to in those lines, and I think you would lose it. I would want to be present, not cut off from what is going around me. But, that said, it wouldn't bother me if someone was listening to something, as long as I wasn't forced to listen along.

I've used mine while waiting on my wife and the kids when they go and ride. I'm usually in an area where it is expected though. Like in EPCOT. I don't see anything wrong with it and I don't see why it is a problem at all. I do though, understand the issue while standing in line, but I wouldn't make a fuss about it.

For added fun, you could load your iPod with the appropriate MP3s so that you can listen to the audio for Forbidden Eye while riding Dinosaur! or listen to the good on-board audio during Space Mountain. Miss Jeremy Irons narrating Spaceship Earth? The solution is at your fingertips!
