Using a Cane

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here is where I decided to post it, so, if wrong please feel free to move to the correct spot.

I am going to Disney next year and I use a cane to get around when I need to stand for long periods of time or walk a long time, I am more then likely going to use a wheel chair, so that should not be an issue. Anyway my question is can I go on rides with my cane or will I have to leave with the wheel chair or is there places to put it when I get on a ride?

Thanks

I just did some quick research for you. You can bring your cane on all rides except the thrill rides where you can leave it with your wheelchair or hand it to a CM who will take to the unloading area for you. Hope this helps.

Another piece of information that keeps coming up is to bring a cheap cane and not a 'good' one as if it gets damaged or lost, it doesn't matter so much.

Have traveled with a cane several times. I prefer to hand it to the CM as I am getting on the ride. A hysterical encounter transpired when the CM at ToT took my cane and used it while giving his spiel. A teenage girl told her group "Look! He's taken some old lady's cane!" I laughed and said that would be me. :) They are always fun at Everest too, asking if DH is forcing me to ride. I always say it's the other way around!

Just remember to label the cane with your name and at least your phone number, so in case it gets lost or misplaced, you can be found...(I labeled mine with a P-Touch machine, and put clear tape over it, so the label wouldn't fall off)...enjoy your trip!!!

The CM's will take good care of your cane, they always take very good care of my crutches; they magically appear at the exit/end of the ride.

The only odd thing that happened once was they had me keep them with me on Toy Story Midway Mania "just in case it broke down" - and it did - lol.

My father uses a cane and an electric scooter (which was medically prescribed by his doctor) and whenever my parents go to Disney, they take care of his cane (in the event he can't bring it on a ride). You shouldn't have any issues. Enjoy your trip. :)

I second the folding cane idea. Several years ago I was nursing a healing broken foot during a visit and had a folding cane, no problems with it at all. Well, besides people not paying attention and tripping over it.

I had knee surgery before my last trip and I used an adjustable cane that could be reduced in size and fit under the seat, as @ The Empress Lilly stated it’s great to move people out of the way or hold your place in line. MY DS (a big Marx brothers fan) put one of those bicycle horns on my cane and we used it to prevent people from walking into me as well.
