Use twitter to track wait times

As an iphone user, I've been waiting and waiting for an accurate wait times app, but none has been created for iphone for wdw.

I noticed that Len at touringplans is asking people to send wait times via twitter, which will be available on their twitter for viewing. It will be a great way to keep track. I plan on twittering my upcoming trip and will include the @touringplans in each post, so all my followers and touringplans followers can see the wait times and experiences. Let's all join in!

Don't forget to follow my trip on twitter below as well. Depart in 8 days for the Mickey Boat then 24-30 WDW.

The problem is most people who go to Disney don't want to spend all their time on the internet for the benefit of people who aren't there and whom updated wait times would have no real effect. While it would certainly be nice to know before heading out to the park how crowded it is, I don't think it's worthwhile for non-paid park guests to waste time doing this when they can be enjoying the parks.

I could see it working though, for those who chose to get in the standby line.

Will someone be roaming the parks solely updating the wait times on Twitter? Probably not.

Will numerous people (assuming this catches on) post the time when they chose the standby line? I can definitely see this as a possibility. In fact, I would be more than willing to twitter a wait time if I am waiting in it.

Even if you had a dozen or so people out of the thousands in a park at any given time do this, you could have a pretty up to date and accurate picture of the wait times at most of the key attractions.

The beauty of twitter on iphone is that i don't have to surf the net. I use twitterphone for free and post quickly and check quickly for what followers posted. I'm not sure how twitter works on other phones.

All you have to do is follow someone who is posting on their trip. It's much faster than following a web board that loads very slowly.

We tried this here on WDWMAGIC but you just dont get anywhere near enough updates for it to be of any use. At times you are lucky if you get one update per day, nevermind an update every hour or so that would make it useful.

I believe that as this spreads it could be very successful. Just get people to post what they see on the wait times boards and others can see in real time what is going on it a park. This is very early in usage and spreading quickly. It will add an element of fun for wdw veterans like myself who always like new challenges.

I just found your twitter btw.

I found when I tried it that to be of any use, you really need every attraction to be updated at least once per hour, ideally every 15 minutes (to handle spikes like parade and show exist etc). That is some serious data collection there. Then you need it all organising in some way to allow it to be viewed.

I already had the mobile edition saved to my iphone.

I figure that any data provided would be a nice treat for anyone currently on vacation!
