I have an 8 day park hopper plus for our next visit in June. We are thinking of upgrading to the annual pass. Should I do this before we go, or after we have used one day of our park hopper plus ticket?

One thing to consider if you waited until day 2 to get he AP, you would loose any discounts the AP offers on that first day. The discount could be substantial depending on how many people in your party and if you have any ADR's or eating on property that day.

Wonderful! I am now excited about doing it, knowing it won't cause problems with fast passes. Thanks you all the input and answers!!!!

We just did this in September, we upgraded our 10 day Park Hooper from Undercover Tourist, so we shaved money off from that and also the CM gave us each an additional $52 off. I tried to ask why but he was behind glass and had a heavy Spanish accent. I just couldn't understand what he was saying and there was a long line so I gave up. He was super nice and joked around with us a lot. This was at EPCOT's guest services.

There is a "trick" that can be taken advantage of when upgrading a discount ticket to an AP.

If you have a discount ticket such as from UT or Tickets at Work and you want to upgrade to an AP, you should do so after you have first entered a park.

Here is how it works.

Let's say you buy a ticket from UT that would normally cost your $300, but through UT it is discounted to $275

If you were to take that brand spanking new ticket to a window to upgrade to an AP, before you used that ticket, you would get $275 credit to your AP.

However, if you enter the park with that ticket, turn right around, and then go to a window to upgrade to an AP, you will get $300 credit towards your AP. The act of using the ticket locks in the full cost as the ticket value.

No idea why WDW does this, and no idea if it will ever end, but I have done this very thing a number of times myself.

Actually, we saved 69.53 + an extra 52 per ticket off the full price of a Platinum plus ticket. We went before we used the ticket. We have done this this way two other times and never used the ticket first.
