Upgrading tickets & FP+

So I was recently given a one day Magic Your Way ticket and I want to upgrade it to a FL resident 3 day ticket w/park hopper (I called WDW and confirmed this was possible.) I already know upgrades need to be done at guest services, but if I were to book my resort a few months prior, I am guessing I would only be able to select fp+ times for my 1 day ticket. Do you think once I am actually in the parks and I upgrade, I can select fp+ times just 2 days prior? Would I be stuck with terrible fp+ choices? Or would they scrap my 1 day ticket and issue me a brand new 3 day ticket, meaning I have lost all fp+ reservations for that 1 day? I have never upgraded a ticket before, so I don't know what to expect, especially now with the addition of fp+.

i am no expert on this, but i will give you what i know
you will not lose your prior info by upgrading to a different ticket, your FP+ are safe, the new ticket will replace the old, not delete the old, your stuff will still be there

as far as choosing FP+ a day or two before, i was pleasantly surprised. things i could not get 60 days out, or times i wanted, became available in abundance on the day i was there- at least my early morning checks. i didn't try changing things after say 2 PM, but a CM at a ride verified for me that the majority of FP+ are released "day of". not sure that's Gospel, but he was right. i had easier time getting things the morning of visiting than before

don't know for sure about how far out they wil let you go after the ticket that is registered on MDE expires, if you are staying at a WDW resort, they may let you continue booking based on that alone......that requires the other experts on here. sorry

You can only book FP+ for the number of days you have valid ticket media for. So if you only have a 1 day ticket, you can only book 1 day worth of FP+. Upgrading your ticket won't affect your FP+, as they are technically tied to your MDE account, and not your ticket. You could theoretically have 2 5 day tickets tagged to your account (I believe) and book 10 days worth of FP+, and then use the tickets randomly. (Why anyone would do this is a different story) As such, one can use MBs from past trips interchangeably as they are all tagged to your MDE profile, and not to your current reservation.

The exceptions are AP holders that got MBs by having an on site stay, are limited to I believe 7 days of booking FP+ if not booking during a reservation window.
