Upgrading park tickets to AP

I am heading to the world during the free dining offer. I am going for 10 nights, split between two resorts. I will be going with my Mother & Myself. But my Mother will be leaving after the first resort stay. She will be getting her one day ticket upgraded to a 5 day hopper. Now this is where it gets complicated!!! Since I will be returning again within a year I will be getting an Annual Pass. When I made the reservations I only payed for a "1 day park ticket". This will give me a total of 2 "1 day park tickets" for my 2 resort stays. If I upgrade the first resort "Key to the World" to a 5 day hopper & then when I check into my second resort & recieve my "1 day park ticket" what amount of the two media that I have will I be able to put towards an Annual Pass?!? Do they prorate the 5 day hopper, or just give you the remaining ballance on the ticket?

Any help & feedback is greatly appreciated!!:veryconfu

Sorry, but what you want to do won't work. You may upgrade a Magic Your Way Ticket to any other ticket of equal or greater value, but you will not be able to combine 2 separate tickets into 1 larger one.

Secondly, Annual Passes cannot be encoded on a KTTW card, causing a new ticket to print. This will break the link to the Guest's room reservation and will delete any and all unused package entitlements (including all unused Dine entitlements.) As a result, Guest Relations will advise you not to upgrade to an Annual Pass until after you have checked out of your room.

Based on what you have stated, my advise is this...

Call now to upgrade the MYW tickets on your first reservation to 5 day Park Hoppers for you and your mom as you have planned. This will lock in the advance savings discount on the tickets. If you upgrade upon arrival you will pay gate pricing for the 5 day hopper. Disney Reservation Center will not impose any change fees if this modification is done more then 14 days prior to arrival.

At the end of your first stay, once you have checked out and finished using all remaining dine entitlements on your first reservation, upgrade just your 5 day hopper to an Annual Pass at one of the parks, then use it during your second stay. You will receive a credit of the full cost you paid for the 5 day hopper toward your annual pass and the expiration date will be set to the date you first used the 5 day hopper.

Do not use your 1 day ticket on the second reservation and simply save it for a future use. It does not expire until 14 days after first use, so it will remain valid until it is used or upgraded. This one day ticket can later be used to upgrade to an annual pass renewal certificate if done in person at one of the parks.

Enjoy your vacation!:sohappy:

Just one thing from personal experience: don't get the no expiration option on your 5 day hopper or you will not be able to upgrade to an AP. That was our plan on our last trip. We were told on the phone that we could do the upgrage, but when we got there they scanned the tickets and said that because we had the no expiration option they were not upgradable. Man that was disappointing!:brick:

As always, you have the best info!! Thank you very much for all your help! I have just one more question for you. Can my travel agent upgrade my tickets (to the 5 day park hopper) for me or should I do that myself?

If the reservation was booked by a travel agent, then you must call them to modify your package and upgrade your tickets. We at the reservation center cannot access your reservation at all.

JP, you mentioned in your 1st post that the AP would start in the date of the 1st use of the 5 day park hopper. I have a 7 day park hopper with 2 days remaining from '95. How will that work?

If you use one ticket to get your AP you can do it on your first day to get full value. We did this in Dec. and we stayed at CSR and had the dining plan. We were instructed by the resort to hop a bus to MK and go to guest services. We told them what we wanted to do and here is what they did:
They took our room keys with our dining, pulled the tickets off of those keys but left us with our dining, charge services and room keys. They then moved those tickets onto new AP's. So we received the full value of our 9 day hoppers (did not go w/the no exp.) and applied that to our APs and we kept the dining plan as well. All was good and it took less than 10 minutes for my entire group to do this (12 people).
BUT as others said you can't use two tickets to upgrade to one new ticket. You can only do this with one ticket. Good luck and have fun!

I think I can answer that one as I had had tickets from 1995 as well. Those tickets are punch card type, so first you need to go to guest relation to have them exchanged to a magnetic strip ticket.

So at this point you will get a brand new (unused) 2 day park hopper with no expiration. You can therefore upgrade it then to an AP which WILL begin on the day of its first use.
