Upgrading MYW to annual passes

Has anyone ever tried to do the upgrade by mail/phone/email etc.? Our situation is that we had 6 day MYW with hopper and water parks. We used the 6 theme park days but still have 5 water park admissions good until 14 days after the first usage.
As I understand it we can apply the costs of these to upgrade to a premium annual pass but when I called to inquire with ticketing I was told it must be done in person. I have contacted guest communications via email and telephone and they now have a file open for my inquiry.
We are intending to rent DVC points and return for several short trips over the next year to decide on a home resort to purchase resale at.
So.......question is has anyone ever attempted something similar or been allowed to do upgrades when not on site?
Thanx

No
You have to physically be there to upgrade, no exceprions. It also has to be done within 14 days of first use.

Sorry.

It's correct that you have to be there in person to upgrade tickets. However....Guest Comm is able to make exceptions on a case by case basis and are able to create a file for you that will explain your situation to a Guest Relations CM who will then be able to upgrade your ticket (still in person) after it has expired. Guest Comm just gives you a reference number, you take that number and your tickets to a GR location, and, assuming Guest Comm has made the exception for you, the CM will read the file and upgrade the tickets for you. Also keep in mind that even if this accommodation is made for you, your AP's will still expire one year from first use of your original tickets, and you will still pay the full upgrade amount.

Again, case by case, but it's been done.

This is basically the process as explained to me by the guest services CM that I spoke with on the phone when she "opened a file". She basically said she would pull together all of my info, make a determination if there would be an exception to the "on-site 14 day rule", then contact me next week with the determination. Our first day of use was 8/29 so the nearly $400 that would apply to the AP purchase would be worth the 2 month back dating when we go in October.

I completely agree with this. In March of 2010 I bought a 6 day, park hopper, no expiration ticket and when I was back in Orlando a month later I decided it was best for me to just get an annual pass. When I explained this situation to the CM at guest services at Downtown Disney they took the amount that I paid for the 6 day pass and applied it to an annual pass. The only thing of note was that my annual pass started on the first day of use of the 6 day pass which was in early March, but I still had 11 months left and I made plenty of use of it.

But if you get the right CM they definitely should be able to help you. They helped me but I guess mine was a pretty easy situation.

Just an FYI for anyone else who may run into this. I received a return call from guest relations offering to open a file with a confirmation number relating to this. When we return to the world next month this will allow me to purchase the upgrades to AP backdated to 8/29....the first use date of our original MYW tix. This works out fine as in addition to our October trip we're planning to return in January to see my daughter dance at WWOS complex for the college dance and cheer team championships. So......we'll get at least 16 days from these passes...well worth the phone call.
