Just had to post this - my wife and arrived at WDW yesterday with a reservation for a studio at OKW. While chatting with the woman checking us in, I mentioned that it was our 18th anniversary. She proceeded to check in her computer and told me that we had been upgraded to a 2-bedroom! I'm not sure whether this was pre-arranged, because I don't recall whether or not I had said anything when I made the reservation, but it was a fantastic surprise in any case. The accomodations are beautiful - I'm looking out onto a serene pond as I type this (my wife's just finishing up getting dressed). Oh, and we also got buttons to wear that say Happy Anniversary - everyone's been expressing their good wishes, and we also got a free dessert with a candle in it at Artist Point last night. Magic!

That's awesome... Happy Anniversary!!

How's this for an upgrade?

My cousins came to visit me and I went to check them in to All Star Sports with my CM discount... $59.99 per night. When we got there, however, they said they were overbooked and they needed to bump us... to the GRAND FLORIDIAN. So my lucky cousins got to stay at the Grand Floridian with a lagoon view for $59.99 a night!

We always wish for something like that. We don't have CM discounts, but still, a deluxe for the price of a value or even a moderate is a great deal.

Can just anyone get an upgrade? What are some ways that some of you have gotten upgrades? Just curious...Thanks!

From what I know from front-desk CM's... Most upgrades that people get come from overbookings of one particular view or room style. When that happens, the CM's at the front desk are notified that several check-ins have been flagged. Of those that have been flagged, a certain number needs to accept.

People don't always accept upgrades - and this is the same way of doing "bumps" or "walks" to other resorts.

Thus they flag like 20 check-ins for 10 overbooked rooms (I don't know the actual ratio) and generally know where they'd upgrading you to. Once you arrive, the CM's tell you "oh, you were upgraded" (not "oh, we overbooked!") and tries to put that guest in the upgraded room.

If the guest refuses, then they take that person out of the pool. Meaning, if 20 people are flagged for 10 rooms, and the first 10 who show up refuse the upgrade - then those last 10 people don't have a choice in the matter.

That usually doesn't happen though. However, it's the same policy for handling being walked to another resort. At the mods or values, most people don't mind as they commonl go up a level - but at the deluxes it starts to get nastey.

We have been upgraded to water views just about every time we have been. Small upgrades like that start the vacation off on the right foot. When we got to the POP we we just had a standard room, but we got a nice view of Hourglass Lake. And we were on the bottom floor, which is geat for all of our knee/ankle problems.

We were upgraded last year! We were staying at the Contemporary and when we got there the guy told us that since we were mickey's very special friends we would now get a consierre sp? room for the same price! It was right when they were starting to refurb the Contemp. so something tells me that it wasn't so much a matter of being mickey's friend as so many of the normal rooms were closed off! None the less it rocked!:ROFLOL:

I have only stayed at OKW once and that was last summer. I booked an AP discounted studio room. We weren't told anything at check-in but our room was a one-bedroom villa. That really ended up being a nice upgrade and I actually thought the resort was much more than I had anticipated. I like serene locations and the OKW resort was a definitely in that category.

Don't have a clue why I was upgraded but it was a very nice surprise. I consider it my YOMD granted dream come early (cuz I haven't gotten any dreams since the celebration started).

Can you get these type of upgrades if you're staying as a DVC member? We're renting points to stay at OKW (hopefully BCV... on the wait list) and I'm just curious if its possible that we could be upgraded?

When we got to the WL we were told that we were upgraded from a standard to a concierage level for the first night which we booked through travelocity a day before our full package from Disney. We asked if there was a possibility to stay on the same level for the entire trip. The Cm went to check with her manager and came back with a thumbs up. What a way to start a vacation.:sohappy:

That may actually be the best part - we're staying here on rented points, so we ended up with a two bedroom for $100 a night. Hard to beat that :)
