All standard rooms have balconies.
Some people have reported that upgrades "just because" are getting rarer. As knowledge of upgrades has spread, some people have gotten ugly about
demanding them. It has also led to complaints from guests who wanted and paid for a better view, only to find that it is possible to get one without paying for it.
I personally will
not pay more for a view. How much time do you actually spend on the balcony anyway?
We were there in January during an admittedly rare cold snap. The daily highs were in the 50's, which meant temperatures in the 40's. We went out onto the balcony for a total of 10 minutes in 6 days.
The other thing to note is that the balconies do not have grille work but rather have solid metal (or possibly wood--don't remember) panels on them. You cannot see out of your balcony if you are sitting down. You must stand.
You said you are in a bunk bed room. This will determine which rooms are available for you. There are far more rooms with 2 Queens than with bunks.
IMHO, feel free to ask, but don't sweat it if you stay in standard.
You're still at WDW, and still at the most awesome WL (and I'm not

)
