Upgrade from Bay Lake Tower?

Got a letter from WDW today. Before opening it my wife said, "What if they overbooked BLT and they are offering an upgrade to GF or Poly?" Then we both agreed since we have yet to stay at BLT, it would be difficult to think of any place else as an upgrade unless maybe GF club level.
Alas, it was just a letter about the refrigerators being disconnected and replaced in some rooms. Does not affect our kitchen in BLT though.
Anyway, what would you consider an upgrade from BLT?

Definitely Grand Floridian would be considered an upgrade, but I'm not sure that I would want it over BLT. Now, if the Polynesian should get their DVC and the 'cabanas' over the lake are added, then I would definitely want to stay there over BLT.

Your correct..If I could only scoop the post code lottery with a few million $$$$$$$$$$... I would spend 3 weeks at WDW..Yes..21 days...3 nights at 7 different resorts..
If i won millions it would be 3 holidays a year and a different resort each time
May for 2 weeks or the quiet, unsure which resort
October for the halloween desecrations ,AKL
Over xmas and the new year for the holiday dessications ,Poly

Just Doesn't seem very Disney to me o_O
Yep, adjacent to and part of the Contemporary. The CR opened the same day as the
Magic Kingdom, back in 1971. It has a monorail running through the middle of the freakin building and you can walk, boat or monorail to MK. CR and BLT Could not be more Disney if it was shaped like a giant, walking, talking mouse. BLT is part of CR and CR has history and location. If you stood on the grounds of the CR the day WDW opened you would be standing at a magnificent resort. Same for the Poly. On the grounds of the other resorts that day...well at that point nothing very Disney. I have been to CR and loved the whole experience. Think I will feel the same way at BLT.
So anyway, I think it is very Disney, and currently our number one choice and are so excited. If we get there and the location, size of the room, pool, little beach out back, CR restaurants right across the bridge, MK within about a seven minute walk, Epcot a monorail ride away, WL a boat ride away, poly and GF a monorail ride away and if those darn fireworks just become too annoying, I might change my mind.
If you and the Mrs. Ferrett and @real mad hatter and his family would like to hop a plane and come visit to judge for yourself, we'll save a spot for you at Top of The World, or California Grill and discuss between fireworks just how unDisney the place is.
Anyway, we like trying different resorts each trip, and have not been disappointed yet and have stayed at about half of them so far, but we stay off property even more! I know, proof we just must be confused. How could we dare stay off property? Incredible resorts at about one third the price, that's how.
So to continue with my rant...CR...about as Disney as you can get...IMHO...which counts for mostly nothing.:arghh:

The one problem I had at BLT was to me it felt cold. The rooms decor I love and I had a view of the castle that was grear but the grounds didn't do it for me. I found an easy solution, take the monorail to the poly and sit on the beach with the wife and a bottle of wine! As far as upgrades, if they offer one and its at a hotel that u think u may never do otherwise due to price I say why not, unless its one you really despise or one that just doesn't offer what you look for in a resort.
As far as BLT, next time I think I'd prefer a view of the lake, then there's no parking lot to look over!

Yeah, we have a lake view and are looking forward to it. Just hope we get something way up high. Have made the room request already, but you never know. We will be resort hopping while there and probably spend much more time at BLT than in the parks, but that is the way we like it.

The Contemporary is one of my least favorite places. I'd consider everything but the Values an upgrade.

It's good that there is something for everyone. :)

That is amazing to me. We love the Contemporary and can't wait to stay at BLT. Yes, something for everyone. We don't even have a least favorite that I could name unless maybe Coronado Springs, but we just have not stayed there simply because we have not gotten around to it and we stay off site a lot.

And this is amazing to some of us! While i understand the 'history' of CR, CR and BLT has no Disney appeal to me. I'm not there for a history lesson. I'm there to escape the rat race of real life. I stay at these high ends for business. If I was in one of those rooms, I'd feel guilty for not checking email, holding webinars, phone conferencing on the hour.... When it comes to vacation, I want fun fun fun theming. But that's me.

You asked and some have answered, just not with answers I think you were expecting. It goes to show that Disney is something different to everyone...and Disney does a fine job of attempting to offer all sorts of experiences to all sorts of expectations. We're not trying to convince you it's not amazing, it's just not amazing to everyone.

Enjoy! :)

Grateful for all the responses and did mention there is something for everyone. I am glad there are so many different choices. So far, I have been happy trying different places at WDW and truly enjoy different experiences. Some people say they will never stay off site, something we do at least once per year. Again, something for everyone. What I view as one of the most Disney of resorts, others don't care for. Different strokes. On the opposite end of the spectrum is how, to me, AoA is over themed to the point of being distracting, and GF's theme felt a bit stuffy, but we still very much enjoyed them. I may be one of those who would enjoy the cardboard box theme, if Disney ever built the Art of Shipping Supplies Resort. :joyfull:
