See. These studios don't understand much about animation. It's the freakin storytelling that makes the movies hits. Not the fact that the movies are computer animated.

However, personally I would make a traditional animated look movie using CGI. The reason why is because it would save time and money, especially if more than one movie is made the same way.

I agree wholeheartedly. That's why I recommend the films of Studio Ghibli, which are animated traditionally (and beautifully, might I add) while being superior in storytelling and character development to most of Disney's films in the past few years. Howl's Moving Castle, Hayao Miyazaki's newest film, will receive a limited theatrical release in the USA in June. It's animated tradiotionally, with some CGI assistance (but very little).

Hmmm... the poster inside the Animation building at MGM said that 'Rapunzel Unbraided' was 2008. They had posters for their next 4 offerings, basically one per year for the next four years.

No, no, don't you listen to Eisner? "2D is dead". He said so. The only reason that Pixar is so successful is that it's 3D and CGI. Story is overrated, it's all about eyecandy....

Sorry, horribly sarcastic :)

I believe Rapunzel is no longer Unbraided. I read it has turned to a traditional fairy-tale (YAY!). :) I'm especially excited about The Corpse Bride, Cars, Ratatouille, Shrek III, American Dog and Rapunzel. I don't really care for the others...

I agree! I think if it were possible to use the technique used in Tarzan (the Deep Canvas process) for a fully animated film, the end result would look stunning! Just imagine a 2D-like movie, only with swift camera movements flying through a 3D world but still traditional in its look.

Well I know of some things that could really help. Like for example, using mainly still backgrounds. You know, no moving camaras unless it is moving horizontally. It os ok for other shots but too many of those and the film looses that "hand-drawn" touch.

Another thing is to simplify shading. Too many colors and the prefect contours can be see. Flat colors however hid the fact that the figures are 3D much better.

What else, It might even be better to render the whole movie in black and white such as what a pen and ink version of the movie would look like and color in the movie with what is used to color in traditional animated film. (like what is used in the old animation film at the studios park).

I love Wallace and Gromit!

And I have been in EXTREME anticipation of The Corpse Bride.

Yay for stop-motion animation!

And Shrek 3! Woot!

I wonder how Rapunzel will work...they'd have to add quite a bit. The story is simply a princess letting down her hair for a witch, then a prince, with whom she runs away with. But if they're creative enough, it could be awesome.

And I do agree with everyone here. It's the story that does it...not the style. You figure out the general storyline, then go with the style that best fits the feel of the story. I'm not against any kind of animation, but if a movie is made CGI and people expect it to be good simply because of that...*sigh*...it's just sad.

What ever happened to How's Moving castle?

and HOw has valaint done? I have not heard anything about it.
Weird that a Disney animated movie should get so little press.

HMC got a pretty small release back in June....didn't do that great....

Valiant was released in August and has grossed only $17.5 million so far.
