unused space mountain asteroid?

I've heard about this but was trying to confirm that there is infact an asteroid prop at the top of the space mountain lift hill. The asteroid was installed as part of the 2005 rehab, replacing the old 1977 red satelite orb.

However the asteroid does....,,nothing. It has never been activated to make it look like there is an asteroid coming toward your vehicle? :shrug:

Also, is it true that RockIt Mountain was to have atleast one loop in the rollercoaster track? I saw recent video of disneyland's space mountain with the lights on and not only can I see faintly see the asteroid, it looks like there's a looping track in there as well.

You are right about the asteroid. I remember reading, shortly after the refurb, that there was supposed to be an asteroid that you narrowly miss as you finish climbing the lift hill. You can see the asteroid, but it's not lit up, and it doesn't do anything.

As for the loop, the answer is no. Think about it...Do you really think Disney would redesign the track just for the RockIt Mountain overlay? Do you realize the kind of engineering that would have to go into adding a loop? That's not something you can just add in. What you're thinking of is a prop that was added for lighting for RockIt Mountain. The track actually goes through it. It's not part of the track.
