Attendance and visitor spending continued to climb at Universal Orlando and otherNBCUniversal theme parks in 2012, parent company Comcast Corp. said Wednesday.
The Philadelphia-based cable company said operating cash flow at its theme parks – a measure of financial strength – surged 9.9 percent in 2012, from $867 million to $953 million.
That included a 9.7 percent increase in the fourth quarter, which covered the busy Christmas travel period, when cash flow jumped from $223 million to $245 million.
Total revenue rose 4.5 percent for the quarter to $498 million, and 4.8 percent for year to nearly $2.1 billion.

Comcast said it will continue to ramp up construction of new attractions at its theme parks.
Total capital spending at NBCUniversal ballooned 80 percent in 2012 to $763 million, in part because of spending on attractions such as the Transformers ride in California and Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem in Orlando.
And Comcast said NBCUniversal's capital spending will rise another 25 percent in 2013, almost solely because of parks spending. The company will open a copy of the Transformers ride in Orlando this summer and is working on a second Harry Potter land. It is also building copies of Wizarding World and Despicable Me in California.
"Investments in our theme parks over the last few years have actually reset the level of their performance," Comcast Chief Financial Officer Mike Angelakis said on the call. The new attractions, he added, are "dramatically expanding the potential of our theme-park business."

They're working on a twenty year, 1.5 billion dollar expansion for USH... Not to mention Potter 2.0. Universal/Comcast is really coming a long way, I hope they keep it up!

...but Universal is still just a coaster park right?;)

Those would be some insane coasters if that was true. It's at least good to know that the money from my ridiculous cable bill is being put to good use.

Never thought of it that way. I'll try to remember that when I write that check every month.
I am happy that Comcast has done a deal with Fox to add more of their cable networks, FUEL TV being the one I was interested in for all the UFC programming.

Not really. Universal is expanding to develop more ride technologies and effects. HP Forbidden Journey ride uses the KUKA arm, which I now hope that Disney would have snagged up for any future Star Wars rides for the new movies (but Universal has the exclusive rights to it for a long time). So what is Disney going to do to compete with Universal (as Universal is now leading the way with new ride technologies and effects)? The last time I was truly amazed by a new ride technology coming out of Disney, it was Soarin' and before that it was Indiana Jones. Seems like I just keep waiting Disney...

I believe the "Coaster Park" is up on Lake Erie. For the record, IMHO, Ohio is the place for Coasters!

Eh, aside from Cedar Point and Kings Island it's not the coaster Mecca everybody makes it out to be. I'd much rather go to Cali for coasters...with Knotts, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Great America, and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom...it has way more to offer.

And sorry CP fans, but SF Magic Mountain is the coaster Capital of the world...18 coasters!

The new Full Throttle ride looks terrifying.

But how many are operating successfully on any one day? ;)

Magic Mountain coasters, or parks? I was talking about the coasters. And I know SF maintenance has gotten much better, I just can't resist a jab every now and then, since its kind of an old habit. :)

UGH! When I heard that in the commercial I wanted to throw up! I'm getting sick of that saying.

Yeah I only live once, but I'd never go on that thing, HAHA.
It looks a bit gimmicky to me. Doesn't look scary at all.

Now Lex Luthor, Superman and Goliath... :o
