Do the Single Rider Lines quickly move at Universal? Is it an acceptable replacement for purchasing Express Pass?

Potentially going for 1 day, Park Hopping. June 20th...yes...I know new Harry Potter ride opens just prior. Crowds I bet.

It won't take the place of ExpressPass, but it will save you time over the standby line when it is offered. Sometimes Single Rider is actually shorter than the ExpressPass line.

We've been going to FL parks for 23 years, and it was only our last visit in March that we started using the single rider lines. 75% of the time if you go through in a group of 3 or less, you end up riding with your group anyway. When the kids were smaller we wanted to all ride together, but now that they're older it's a quicker way to get on some of the longer wait time rides.

It's a common misconception that the single rider line is guaranteed to be shorter than the normal line. Often, they are end up being the same length as the normal line, or only slightly shorter, saving you only 5 or 10 minutes, in which case if you're not alone, you might a well have just waited slightly longer to ride together. Yet, sometimes you will bypass a long line quickly. It really is a gamble. They also don't post wait times for the single rider line. The trick is knowing how physically long the single rider line is so you can gauge how many people are ahead of you... but this is something a first time visitor would not know.

We use Single Rider most frequently for the Potter attractions. We've never had much of a backup on Forbidden Journey since the ride system is always moving. (In fact, in the last 30 minutes of the day you can easily power through 3 or 4 rides on FJ using the singles line) And we've learned that we won't wait for Gringott's single-rider if the line is farther back than the bottom of the stairs. Just be aware that the Single Rider line bypasses pretty much all of the preshow rooms on both Potter attractions.

We'll also do Single Rider at Men in Black. It's a very unthemed backstage corridor, though, which is rather disappointing.

Single Rider at RRRI, Hulk and Mummy have been hit-or-miss for us. We've bailed out of both Hulk and Mummy's singles line when we were standing in them for 10-15 minutes and barely moved in that time.

I find the single rider lines to be hit or miss. They definitely don't take the place of Express Pass, with the exception of maybe MIB, whose single rider line always moves quickly. Some aren't always open either, like Jurassic Park and Dudley Do-Right. In some cases, even Express Pass doesn't offer much of an advantage over standby (The Mummy can have a longer Express line than standby, and Fast and Furious merges before the actual back of the line, so offers no benefit).
