Universal raises ticket prices....AGAIN!

After raising ticket prices by $2.00 JUST 3 months ago, Universal responded to Disney's recent price hike by raising their prices another 80 cents to match Disney's price. Now it costs, per day, $54.75 (before taxes) for a one day ticket at either resort. The reason given for the additional price hike at Universal was the addition of 3 new attractions to UO: Jimmy Neutron, Shrek 4D and Revenge of the Mummy....although that was the reason for their original $2.00 price hike, so I don't know what changed in 3 months beyond the real reason.... "following the leader".

As an aside, I thought Disney's price hike was extreme and unnecessary, but at least they have more to show for it...Mission:Space, Philharmagic and Wishes equally match/surpass UO's 3 new additions, but they also are in the process of currently constructing 4 new E-tickets for the future: Stitch's Great Escape (this may be more of a D-ticket, but we'll see), Soarin', Lights! Motors! Action! Extreme Stunt show and my favorite, Expedition: Everest: The Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.

Not sure why you are so surprised. The hiking of prices has never had to do with new attractions being added. The parks always match each others prices. And I don't see how a Fireworks show, a 3-D show, and Mission: SPACE is better than Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, and Mummy. I'd say it is pretty similar. Also, Universal has rides in development too but they just don't announce them 5 years before they open like Disney loves doing these days. Revenge of the Mummy was officially announced May 2003, exactly one year before it will open.

I'm not so much surprised they did it, but amazed that after they JUST raised their prices 3 months ago to a price they thought was right for their resort and what they offered they would raise it again because someone else was higher. Despite their efforts, little things like this make it quite obvious who still runs the show in Orlando. Disney does NOT have a history of following what the other parks do. When SeaWorld and Universal raised their prices 3 months ago, Disney didn't jump on the bandwagon right away and match the prices. Same goes for last year when they waited even longer to raise their prices after Universal and SW's price hike. When Disney finally did raise their prices this year, they set their own level they thought was right for their resort (although I thought it a little steep of a hike).

To raise your prices again after you did just 3 months ago...and less than ONE WEEK after someone else sets a new price high....it shows me that there was no thought on Universal's side for this price hike beyond greed.

I anticipate that when Disney's new additions currently in construction open (note: Stitch will open barely one year after its announcement, while Soarin' and the Stunt show will open no more than a year and half after their announcment, possibly earlier.....only Everest is taking really long to finish at 3 years) they will raise their prices again....but obviously so will Universal and they have no signs, as of now, for having anything new by that time either.

universal is raising thier ticket prices to that?

sheesh.

i get more out of a trip to one disney park than i would to both of Universal's.

they have nothing to combat their long lines.
