Once inside the park, you can obtain an Express Pass with your choice of reserved times to gain access to an attraction's special UNIVERSAL EXPRESSSM entrance. You may receive an additional Express Pass to another attraction when:
a) You have used your existing Express Pass;
b) The 1 hour time slot to experience the attraction has expired; or
c) 2 hours have passed since you first obtained your existing Express Pass."

You have two choices of when you want to return. You pick one, print the ticket, and come back at that time.

Can you use Universal Express on a single day ticket or do you have to buy a package deal?

single day ticket works too. THey also give out express tickets after rides (like hulk, DD etc...), atleast they did when i was there, it seemed like i always had one in my hand.

A little bit of a drift, but we just got back from Universal. We stayed at the new Royal Pacific (1 years old) and because you are a hotel guest your Express Pass is your room key. Show it and viola! you're in (of course you go on the Express Pass line). But the difference is that you can go back on that ride again and again --- you get my meaning. Also you can go on to another ride right away - no waiting an hour. For us this was perfect since the weather was hazy, hot and humid with thunderstorms every afternoon. I tell you nothing beats getting inside one of those cool rides.
