Alrighty basically I'm figuring if Disney doesn't work out over the summer, I was thinking about doing Universal instead. I went to their website, and filled out an application online (how conveniant) for attractions, and merchendise. They sent me an email thanking me, and looking into my application thingy. Alrighty so basically I'm a Disney baby from birth, and I know pretty much everything about the way disney's employment process works, but am totally new to Universal's process. So is there anyone that could provide me with more information about it, and the process? And what to expect? I would totally appreciate it! Thanks!

I only work in Seasonal Entertainment, but from what happened with me, and I imagine is the same for most, is that they do a background check, hire you, then you do a paid orentation (tour the backlots and safety seminars) then you get your training and such... Good luck! It's a good place to work!

what sort of entertainment are you in? Cause I might be interested in being a character out there as well. Basically what i'm asking is this, will they call me, and do an interview or what? Or will they call me to ask if i'm interested in a position?

Also how do you get into entertainment out there? Do they have auditions? What do those consist of? What characters could I be at 5'10-5'11? Just basic info would be greatly appreciated!

They hold auditions for various entertainment roles. Go to www.universalauditions.com for more on that. I work the seasonal events like the Mardi Gras Parade, Macy's Holiday Parade and Halloween Horror Nights. I also do special events when corporations rent out the parks. Being 5'10-5'11" is an ok height but sort of in the middle of spots. I think you could do Scooby Doo and maybe Cat In The Hat, it's been a while since I looked at the heights.

UPDATE:

So Universal's Employment office contacted me today, and invited me to come back and audition for the parks. So anyways I'm a little new to Universal, and if anybody, or if you know someone that has insight of the audition, that'd be great! I have a bunch of questions to ask, and info would be so appreciated. What is this "Type out audition" thing? Just basically want some basic info on the ENTIRE process. Thanks!

Are there any good Universal forums where I can find this?

A type out audition means they're looking for a specific body type or look. You walk into a room, in a group of about 20 people, four casting directors are in there, they look everyone over and may make you say a few words or do a simple movement, then they make their decision. I've been through the entire Animated audition process, in addition to the seasonal events, and know people who've auditioned for almost all the roles there. What are you auditioning for?

Just basic costumed characters..hopefully Spiderman or Cat in the Hat.

For costume characters, first they do a type out audition where you walk into the room and do something like wave to kids, act sad, act happy, and so on. Then from there they teach you a dance movement, 16 steps, and they have you perform it. After that, you'll receive a call back for a fitting. Usually a week or so away, you'll come back and get fitted in costumes where they'll make their final decisions.

Cool! so If I do good in the audition will they tell me before I leave that I have a call back, or will they wait to call me at my home? Is the dance pretty easy? Thanks so much for your help JROK!

fyi- I've never known anyone at UO to actually get a job after they applied online. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I am saying what I typed.

Yes you'll get a call back card at the end of your audition (usually like 10min afterwards). The dance is fairly easy. If you could pick up the Electric Slide in a few minutes, you'll do fine with the dance.

MAJOR UPDATE:

Went to Universal Studios for my audition today, I arrived there at about 5:30, to see that there were others standing at the door. So I went in there, and sat around to fill out an application. First they took our pictures, and filled out some info. Then we went back to the rehearsal hall, where it was friggin FREEZING beyond belief. They then looked to see how tall we were, a total of 3 we're asked to leave. I felt sort of bad for those people, actually. Anyways, we we're then taken into another room, where we tried on the costumes. I got to try on the Cat in the Hat body...yay! They took us back to the main room, where we first went. After that, we went back into the rehearsal hall to learn our dance, and animation. I thought the dance was a tad diffucult, but it wasn't so bad. We performed in groups of 3's, I was basically with two other guys that had no clue what they we're doing..so it was good for me! yay! In the end, they asked me and another guy to stay behind and do some lines. He did some lines of Spiderman, and I had learned some lines from 'gy'..I was pretty excited to learn that I looked like gy. So I did the lines, and I did farely well..not sure what they thought though. So they would let me know in a week or two, about my results...I did really good! I was the last PERSON to leave the audition..so I was VERY excited about that. I'm really hoping that they call me back, and offer me a role as a character performer. So...what do you think will happen now?
