Un-Magical Express

Just arrived at Disney yesterday. I have used DME several times without any problems, until yesterday. To start, they checked our magic band, like every five feet, once when we got to DME CI counter, once when we got in line, and yet again when we were being sent to a bus! Overkill. Usually , we wait 5-15 minutes for a bus. Yesterday, we waited 30 minutes (most of the resort lines were very long as well) in line and then another 20 minutes on the bus before it left. It filled within 10 minutes, then we all just sat there. Once the bus started, they showed reruns of America's Funniest Videos instead of the DME video. We were all very disappointed. Finally got to CSR and checked in (gorgeous resort). We went out to dinner and returned to our room five hours after the plane had landed only to discover that we had no luggage. It was late, we had two kids to get to bed and no pjs or toothbrushes. After two phone calls, we found out that our bags were still at the airport and wouldn't arrive for another 2 hours. The front desk sent up toothbrushes and toothpaste for us and we put the kids to bed in their clothes. DH waited up for luggage to arrive, which it did at 12:03, almost 8 hours after our flight landed. Not the best way to start our trip. We are all exhausted today. Lesson learned: pack all first day items in carry-on in the future. By the way, the reason we were given for the delay was that we flew Southwest and bags on SW and AirTran flights always take longer to be delivered. So if you are flying those airlines, be prepared!

We always fly Airtran or Southwest and have never had an issue with our luggage getting to our resort at a reasonable time. I wonder if that was just a cover up by them? In fact, two years ago when we flew Airtran, we checked in, walked to our room, and our luggage was there 5 minutes later! We did, however, have a panic moment with our luggage yesterday. DME decided to put our luggage on the 10:20 am flight to Columbus instead of the 6:15 pm flight we were on, so our bags didn't show up on the carousel at baggage claim. Talk about panic!! Luckily, they were sitting in the office when we went in to report our lost luggage!

Yep im calling bs on the airline excuse. More than likely just very crowded, given the TGiving holiday next week.

We have had one instance where DME delivered luggage late. It was simply capacity. We always carry our night time necessities carry on for the first night.

Blah sorry! I transferred my own bags last year with SW to DME. But I always, always, carry-on a days worth of clothes for everyone, pjs, some toiletries and a bathing suit, just in case. My worst DME experience was several years ago during Thanksgiving week arriving on the Friday before Thanksgiving Day. We waited 45 minutes in the DME to roll and the bus played the into music over and over and over till we started to move. It took over an hour to hit all the resorts once on property. Oy.

Thankfully we had jammies and went to bed but I had tip money in case our luggage finally arrived. It did at 430 AM!!! POR doesn't have robes nor do I pack one, met bellhop in my jammies and couldn't begin to care. One the was back to MCO at the end of Thanksgiving break the buses were way overbooked. I had to lap sit my 16 year old DD on the DME back to MCO. Normally we have had OK experiences with DME but that Thanksgiving trip was a deal breaker.

An additional potential reason for late luggage with DME is that the airline delayed your bags in the first place, which then would've delayed them arriving at the DME luggage facility.
