ultimate park hopper vs. annual pass

I am going to Disneyworld for the first time in June. I was wondering if I should get an annual pass for myself to get the benefits and discounts. I am staying 8 days. I also have a friend who lives in Orlando and will be visiting her at least once in the coming year. Any advice?

Thanks for the input. I had no real choice of hotel since the Swan/Dolphin are the only ones with the teacher discount. I looked at the location and figured it would be good so I went for it.
