Ultimate Disney Animated Feature Listing

I’m looking for volunteers who would be interested in participating in a project that will produce a list, from best to worst of all 44 full length Disney animated features. However the idea is to end up with a list that is more than a simple subjective list based on individual tastes, box office reciepts or award nominations. Each volunteer will provide a rating for each movie in categories such as animation, music, story and much more. For each film, all ratings in each category will be averaged and then added together with the scores from all categories for that film to give the film a total score. We will then list all 44 films by rank based on their final score.

If you’re interested, here’s what you need to know before you volunteer. Each volunteer must consist of two people who will provide a single rating. This means that both of you will discuss each film together and come to an agreed rating for each category in each film. The thought here is that two heads are better than one! Both of you will watch each film together before completing your ratings for that film. This means that you will have to have access to all 44 full length Disney animated features and be dedicated to viewing all of them. This way each film is fresh in your mind and your ratings will be truly representative of the film. The completion date for this project is October 31, 2004 which means that you will be committed to viewing an average of 7.3 films each month from May to October. So that everyone is rating the same films at the same time we will rate them in order of their original theatrical release. Rating sheets (which I will provide via e-mail as a Microsoft Excel attachment) will be due at the end of each month when I will calculate the scores and post the updated results here on WDWMagic.com. This should prove to be some interesting discussion as we go along.

If you’re interested in participating simply message me or post a message here on this thread that you are volunteering. The rating sheet with instructions will be sent via e-mail to all volunteers by Saturday, May 1, 2004. The first set of results will be posted by Sunday, June 6, 2004. It is my hope to have 10 or so volunteers. I’m looking forward to revisiting all the classic Disney movies and I think this little project can be a lot of fun too! Comments, thoughts and suggestions are always welcome. Hope to hear from a few of you soon, and thank you in advance.

We tested the rating sheets the last two evenings by watching and then rating Snow White and Pinocchio. Let me say, this is going to be a lot tougher than I figured. I was very surprised how high we had to rate various aspects of both of these two films. It looks like there will be a total of 21 different categories that will be rated for each film.

I would like to welcome our first volunteer, Epcot is my fav, PS we love Buzzy too! I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this little project. Come on people, there has to be some other huge fans out there interesting in taking part?

Much as I would like to pitch in, I don't have all the films and I'm the only Disney animation fan I know outside of these boards.

Epcot is my fav – explain the process of viewing? Ok, you and your partner watch the first movie. Right after you finish watching the movie you complete your ratings for that movie by filling out the rating chart that I will be forwarding to you soon. Then you repeat with the next movie, watch and rate.

Grizz and barnum42 – I think we could get you into the project. You don’t have to own all 44 films to participate. If you’re willing, you should be able to find the films you don’t own at your local video store for rent. And barnum42, your partner doesn’t have to be a fan in fact it might even be better to find someone that has never seen the bulk of these movies.

What I’m looking for are at least 10 people who will be able to participate, time wise and who will be able to view and rate at least 7 movies per month beginning in May. Here is the list of films to be viewed; the date that I would like to have the ratings returned (Report date) and the date that I will post or update the ratings (Post date). For those who don’t have the time right now, like Grizz, I’ll accept ratings after the report dates as long as you are in for the full 44 films. Why I’m requesting this for is I don’t want to have people rating only their 2 or 3 favorite movies, this would through off the results of the project.

Report date - May 31st / Post date – June 6th (9.5 hours of viewing – 7 films)
Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Saludos Amigos & Three Caballeros

Report date - June 30th / Post date – July 4th (9.82 hours of viewing – 8 films)
Make Mine Music, Fun & Fancy Free, Melody Time, Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Alice, Peter Pan & Lady and the Tramp

Report date - July 31st / Post date – August 1st (10.3 hours of viewing – 8 films)
Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Sward in the Stone, Jungle Book, Aristocats, Robin Hood, Pooh & The Rescuers

Report date - August 31st / Post date – September 5th (9.22 hours of viewing – 7 films)
Fox and the Hound, Black Cauldron, Great Mouse Detective, Oliver and Co, Little Mermaid, Rescuers 2 & Beauty and the Beast

Report date - September 30th / Post date – October 3rd (10.22 hours of viewing – 7 films)
Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules, Mulan & Tarzan

Report date - October 31st / Post date – November 3rd (9.83 hours of viewing – 7 films)
Fantasia 2000, Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear & Home on the Range

Post dates for updates beyond November will be the first Sunday of each month.

So I guess if you’re interested in participating in the project you need to let me know if you are able to be in the first group, beginning in May or if you will be joining in later. If you’re joining later please try to give me an idea of when you’ll be able to join. Leave a message here in the thread or feel free to private message me. If you have any questions, please ask. Thanks.
