For years after my first visit when I was 7, I though the MK was on an island because you had to take a boat or monorail to get there! It made it even more magical. If this is your first ever visit, I echo what @Worldlover71 said. The monorail is as iconic introduction to MK, and the view of MK from the ferry is what my 2 boys remember about their first ever visit!
As I've mentioned in other threads the Uber thing is becoming a real headache at WDW. Guest don't want to wait for transportation they want instant results. And are always looking for a faster way. Uber to the rescue? This just puts more traffic on the roads slowing things down that much more, making it a catch 22. Don't be surprised if your " contemporary " trick stops working at some point. As policy may change and and Uber drop offs may be screened to cut down on traffic. Not trying to start a rumor I'm just saying this congestion is being looked at. Uber is not well liked at WDW because they put guest at risk. And they have no regard for the traffic around them. They WILL stop dead in a travel lane to p/u passengers or drop them off. Not safe! They are supposed to use the same areas as taxis but they don't. They try to use their p/u anywhere you name it capability to entice businesse. Which is becoming their undoing. We did this (on accident, the Uber driver was new, was supposed to go to Contemporary), for the love of god don't get dropped off at the TTC. It is decidedly unmagical, hectic, crowded, and does not save time. It may actually add time. You get dropped off in the parking area, and have to walk further to the TTC. Then wait for the monorail. No.

I would not be a bit surprised as I mentioned this is a headache for WDW. And it will be a matter of time till the party is over. Some Uber drivers have already been stopped from entering the Contemporary car park with passengers already in, unless the passengers are either staying or dining there. Some people have had to resort to being dropped on the main road.
Once the new flyover is complete, I wonder whether there will be some kind of screening to get near to the Contemporary (and other monorail resorts).

I wouldn't say they consider them the enemy. But I do think the preprogrammed p/u point are an awesome ideaIf Uber was smart, they'd be proactive and would work with Disney to establish hard-programmed pick-up points in the app. You're at the MK front gate and ask for an Uber? The app forces you to pickup at TTC. I believe there's already coding in the app for places like airports.
I know disney probably doesn't like the idea if working with "the enemy" but Uber isn't going away for the foreseeable future, so they might as well come up with some kind of compromise plan so things aren't made worse because there's no plan...

Honestly (and I am NOT an official source). I think it's their way of putting the feelers out to see if it works. With the possibility of stopping Uber from being on property. From the simple standpoint they have control over where guest are being picked up and dropped off ( which is the headache!) And they can one up Uber because Minnie Vans are allowed in bus load zone areas. Win for guest safety and convenience!I wonder how Disney really feels considering Thier new minnie van service
I have never had these experiences with Uber you speak of. They have always been safe drivers, dropping us where taxis drop off, and I don't get overcharged. I have had horrible experiences with Mears taxi service in DW over the years - dirty cars that reek, taking the long way to a park (costing me more), driving insane back from Downtown Disney, and zero customer service. Besides, Uber drivers always try to take care of us since they know we can give them a low score on the app - visible right away - warning all the rest of the customers. Besides, me taking an Uber is taking one less rental car off the streets. As I've mentioned in other threads the Uber thing is becoming a real headache at WDW. I'm sure things went well for your case. But I see the messes everyday, it's not pretty. Also texting is another one of my pet peeves. But they do it with guest in the car.
