Cool, always thought it was just a big hydraulic wave machine. Better yet the company who designed and built it are just round the corner from me and I had no idea!

Very interesting this. Always wondered how it worked but i also assumed it was a hydrolic padel of some sort.

They do mention in the video that there's also a pneumatic-panel wave machine (which is what most wave machines use) built into the system, which is what creates the gentle bobbing waves in between the large ones.

Great video (even with the corny music :ROFLOL. I, too, always thought there was some kind of paddle contraption that was used to make the waves that big. Well now I know!:sohappy:

Prior to Typhoon Lagoon, I believe there was a paddle type wave machine offe the Poly beach, but it tended to self destruct and never acheived to desired efffect of waves hitting the Poly beach.

Ahh does anyone remember the big thread we had a few years back (I think Martin Smith) posted a number of photos of the old machine and we went into quite some depth of it.

I will see if I can dig it up.
