If you could choose between water parks, which would you choose and why? I will traveling with husband and twin 5 year olds

I like Blizzard Beach.

Having gone there as a five year old, there was plenty for me to do, and a lot of stuff that I could do with my parents. Tike's Peak will be great for them, as would be the family raft ride. I believe they can also do the mat races. They can also do the inner tube slides at the Red Slope, but I would do a double tube and have an adult ride down with each of them.

I like Typhoon Lagoon, but my favorite things to do are Shark Reef, Crush 'n Gusher, and hanging out in the deeper portion of the wave pool waiting to body surf the waves in. I don't think you'll be doing that with five year olds. Plus, there are just better slides at Blizzard Beach.

Been to both many times...I'd say you'd be better at BB. Save TL until the kids are a few years older.

Lazy rivers are equal IMO. Both parks have a themed kiddie play area with edge to BB IMO. BBs family tube ride blows away TLs. The wave pool at BB with its gentle bobbing waves is probably better suited for 5 year-olds then the powerful wavepool over at TL. Plus there is Winterland/Summerland Mini Golf right in theBB parking lot should you want to do that too.
Another thing that BB has that TL does not, is an area with some intermediate slides if your kids like that kind of stuff.

Given the ages of the children, I'd recommend Blizzard Beach.

The things that TL has that are superior to BB are:
1. The massive wave pool with more aggressive waves -- would probably be too much for a 5 yo and BB has a smaller version that would probably be more tolerated.
2. The Shark Reef -- would probably be difficult for a 5 yo to get the most out of unless they are a strong swimmer for their age
3. Crush N Gusher -- nothing like it in BB, but it has a 48" requirement, so probably not something your 5 yo children can do.

Meanwhile, BB has Teamboat Springs for a family raft ride, which is perfect for that age group and vastly superior to Gangplank Falls. Also, in generally, the tube rides at BB are a bit longer/better than at TL. And the kids play area is larger and better at BB, if that is more their thing. The stairs up at BB are long, but you have the ski lift as an option which can be fun for children that age.

The lazy rivers are comparable between the two parks.

I would say that TL becomes the better option once kids are in the 8-10 year old range. For teens, both parks are reasonable options depending on specific preferences.

This seems to be asked too many times :p

My vote is for TL, I'd go for the beach and wave pool alone!

But if you are a thrill seeker and like slides, then BB is probably what you need.

Five year old? If I had to take my five year old niece for a day, I think I'd pick BB.

There is so little to choose between both parks that you can't really go wrong.

Typhoon Lagoon is the best water park I have ever set foot in. I would choose this one. Best lazy river out there. Very good wave pool. Good slides, but most importantly great atmosphere. You never think you are in a water park when you are there in typical Disney fashion.

TL because I love the lazy river. Both water parks are hella fun though.
I am just curious as to what you(and others who make similar comment) see as different in the Lazy Rivers between the parks? I mean other than the theming, as we all know that is different. They seems very equal in my experience over the years.

Typhoon Lagoon. I really don't like water slides but my husband does. TL give us a good mix of water slides and the awesome wave pool/lazy river that I like.

Been to both (PAPH) we prefer BB over TL, BB offer more for children IMHO then TL. Both are great and during the summer we go weekly since it's too darn hot for the parks.

My two love BB. They really enjoy the kids area and would happily hang out there all day. However their favourite water park activity was the snorkeling through shark reef. My 9 year old wasn't too sure at first but the 6 year old daredevil didn't hesitate. We went through 5 times in a row. It is quite claustrophobic when you first put the mask on.

My family loves TL - much better and more aggressive Wave pool and they like the slides better at TL then at BB.

BB is much better for younger kids though.

But lazy river at TL is a great way to spend a hot afternoon in the summer :)

I think it depends on what you are looking to get out of a water park. I really dont prefer one over the other overall, but if I'm wanting to have a more relaxing day I tend to go to Typhoon Lagoon because the scenery is so amazing and everything is just a bit more tame (outside of the wave pool but I think the huge waves are relaxing lol). On the flip side if I'm looking for more of a "crazy" day competing with my gf in races and maybe work up the courage to go down Summit Plummit then I'm heading to BB. You will be so happy with either you choose though I find myself saying I like whichever one I've been to most recently my favorite! Aka I was at TL Sunday and currently would choose it over BB!

Can I hack this post and ask are the temperatures swimable in mid-late October?
If it's too cold the parks will be closed.
It will depend on where you come from on whether you find it comfortable or chilly. I am from the north of England, I can remember swimming at the hotel pool and enjoying it but the life guards were wearing big winter coats and shivering.

On the main topic, I love TL and would always chose this first. That said I would still be very happy at BB. For the posters saying the wave pool at TL is too much, there is another pool beside Crusher Gusher which is perfect for younger children to splash around in.
