Two DVC Resorts (but NOT a split stay, just a split party)

First, I did a search on this but only see split stay posts.

Second, I know that policies can change.

Here is the scenario: We are a DVC family with AKL as our home resort. We are interested in booking a family trip December 27, 2021-January 2, 2022 (at AKL) 1 bdr value (Yeah I know that will be hard to get, but thankfully we will have better luck getting a value at the 11mth window;). The wife and my 20th Anniversary is December 29, 2021. On our honeymoon, we stayed at Polynesian. We (just the two of us) would like to get a studio on Dec 29 at Poly (yeah I know that might be difficult at the 7mth window and I will probably have to waitlist) and leave our two kids in the AKL room for one night (they are both responsible, well at this time anyway, LOL). The oldest will be 18 at the time of the stay.

1. Is it currently possible to book two rooms without having to check out of the AKL room when we check in to Polly? (I guess I might have to be the primary on the AKL and the wife the primary on the Poly.)

2. Is the current rule that our kids (the oldest daughter being 18, son 16) can be in the room by themselves?

At the worst, if we can't split up the parties (us at one and kids at other), we will just go/try for Polly or all of us, split the stay between AKL and Poly.

Thanks in advance for your knowledge/experience in this.

I would think that you can just book the AKL room for the entire trip and then be able to book the additional Poly room if available. Could you just try and book Poly for one night using cash? I don't think there would be any issue with your kids staying in the room.

The minimum age for the lead guest is 18 I believe. I don’t think you’ll have a problem booking the two rooms, just have different lead names on each, and leave yourselves on the AKL room.

I will be the dissenter here. With MB it can be problematic to have two rooms under the same people. I suggest if you do this, you do not attach it to MDE and keep it separate as much as possible. So I wouldn't keep your kids as primary on the room and you on another. 18 is minimum for adults to be primary.

I do agree with you MDE and check in are problematic. When we do splitstays, they always have to check us out of our first resort at the second, even though i had gone to the desk at first and said we are checking out. Happens everytime.
But do you know, could I be primary on AKL and wife be primary on Polly?

Good point. Cash would be more expensive than points but it would guarantee us a room. Might need to do that anyway if 7 mth window or waitlist doesnt open.
