TTA at Disneyland CA

I seem to recall a book on Disneyland that featured older pictures of Space Mountain as having a surrounding Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA a.k.a. WEDway People Mover) much like the one that currently exists at the Magic Kingdom - Orlando.

- Does this attraction still exist?
- If so, is it currently in operation?
- Can someone describe the attraction? (Does/did it go through Space Mountain like the one in Orlando does?)
- If it did exist, but closed, what was the reason?

No, sadly this attraction no longer exists. It was removed after the Tomorrowland refurbishment and replaced by a now defunct ride called Rockett Rods. Rockett Rods was a ride like test track. It went along the same track as the WED Way. Although, Rockett Rods problems were that no company wanted to sponcer it, no special tires were developed for it like Test Track's. Worst of all, it kept breaking down. It had no banked turns and it messed it up alot because it went around un-banked curves at high speeds.

I wish the WED Way was back. Rockett Rods was a real let down.

ACK - THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. There WAS NEVER a Tomorrowland Transit Authority or WEDway PeopleMover at Disneyland!!!! There was a PeopleMover, which ran from 1967-1995 and had a completely different mean of propulsion. After the PeopleMover closed, it was replaced with a fast ride, Rocket Rods, which bombed and was only opened from 1998-2000. The PeopleMover track is empty as has quite a bit of structural damage from Rocket Rods.

PS - It was only called PEOPLEMOVER, no WEDway or TTA. However, it was commonly referred to as the Goodyear PeopleMover during Goodyear's sponsorship years.

The old people mover was propelled be series of electric motors turning goodyear tires, not the magnetic propulsion of the WDW version

Actually, it WAS called the "WEDway PeopleMover". When you rode it (which you may or may not have ever done), the onboard narration began by saying, "Welcome aboard the WEDway PeopleMover" and proceeded to refer to it as such several times throughout the ride.

You could call it "Mickey's Time Traveling Monkey Machine" and it would still be the same thing, though. An arial tram tour of Tomorrowland, regardless of the means of propulsion.
