Tron Attraction?

In a word, no. It would be fun and interesting but I don't think it would happen for 4 main reasons:
1. Disney doesn't know if it has staying power. If it has great ridership in the first year or so then great, but that doesn't mean the movie will be memorable or culturally relevant 2 or 3 years down the line.
2. There's no real space in Tomorrowland. The only rides I can feasibly see TDO getting rid of would be Buzz Lightyear, or Indy Speedway, all the other spaces are being used by reasonably popular attractions or spaces too small for anything more then they have now.
3. What would it be based on. While Tron Legacy is getting a lot of good PR they'd still need a good idea on which to base it, it would also need to be workable as a ride vehicle.
4. It would open way too late. Tron Legacy opens in December, with the FLE and the MI coaster happening soon the earliest the ride would open would be some time in 2013-2014, even if they by some miracle got it up by 2012(the projected opening of MI coaster) it would still be seen as a ride based on a 2 year old movie, and since the MI coaster is only moving forward because the movie will release near the ride opening(not to mention the apparent staying power of MI as a franchise as proven by the Laugh Floor's popularity) the Tron ride would need to be in planning stages now and be in partial construction by July/August in order to be relatively recent.

There is that big chunk of precious land between Space Mountain and CoP (or day I say it, including CoP).

You mean the old skyway station where they just spent tons of cash renovating the bathrooms? No.

CoP was a Walt Disney ride, designed and overseen by Disney himself, suggesting getting rid of it is blasphemy.

Yep thats the very one. If required, Disney have proven many times before that they are more than willing to remove something to make space. Those restrooms are sitting on a prime piece of real estate. When the time comes, and I'm not saying I believe it will be for Tron, they will remove the structure.

Yep CoP is sacred for fans, but it wont be there forever.

The 1982 movie has a big cult following, I remember when i used to live in California when I was younger and everyone was raving about the greatness of Tron when it hit theaters.

I'm hoping for Tron at Studios, or even Epcot. I don't get why everyone thinks Tomorrowland is the best place for Tron when Tron takes place in 1982 and 2010 respectively.

what about in epcots futureworld?

I remember reading somewhere on hear someone saying to putting it where the WOL pavilion was. I think thats a good idea but then it would polluting FW with characters and movies which is not what FW is about, it just so happens that is what they are doing to TL so why not put it there.

There used to be a Tron scene during the old Disneyland People Mover ride. I loved it as a kid and have hoped for a full-on Tron ride ever since! You can find video of it on YouTube.
"Warning, you have invaded the electronic realm of the Master Computer Program. Prepare for the game grid of Tron!"......."You have escaped Trons game grid for now users. But take heed. Next time you man not fare so well."

Could they replace the speedway with a lightcycle themed race way. Could operate almost the same way but be fully tracked and possibly higher speed, two seater (one behind the other).

This I could see happening but then they'd have to retheme the entire track, a ride in a building would fit Tron better. The fact that lightcycles are covered on the top aside.
You dont think a ride based on the lightcycles would we good enough???
Still, where would it go? In Tomorrowland there's not much space to put it.

That was then, most of my friends have never heard of the first movie, let alone seen it. Trust me, I loved the movie, loved the original and GBA games but that doesn't necessarily mean that the first movie will get people running if the sequel flops. I get what your saying, it's just that the only people born in the last 20 or so years who have likely seen the first one caught it on G4TV on Movies That Don't Suck.
While I agree with you, the other thought I had was.. Why 'No Way!, the ride may not be relavant in a year!' that didn't stop them with stitch...
Stitch looked like he had staying power when they made that ride, he seemed to have a serious chance to take out Lightyear as the new kids clothing mascot. It had a TV series and 3 straight to DVD movies, the ride was a cheap cover that they only used because most of the building was fine as is. They needed to change very little. A Tron ride(in Tomorrowland at least) would require the demolition of a structure. The best space for it(in my opinion at least) would be the old WoL pavilion. The only issue there is prying it out of the cold dead man's grip of the convention guys who currently have the iron curtain over that place.

The best location would be at MGM, a Tron ride along with the MI coaster would turn MGM into the best park in WDW behind MK.
