Tripod?

What is the best fold up tripod for semi-cheap? Ideally, it would fold up to fit in a backpack.

I've recommended the Velbon Ultra Maxi before, so I'll do it again here. However, I think this model is no longer in production,a nd Velbon may have a newer model than this.

Of course, I'm not sure what you meant by "semi-cheap". I've had this for the past 3 years and have gotten a lot of use out of it. So for around $120, it was a good buy and a worthy investment.

Could you provide a little more detail?

Your max budget?
How much does it need to support?
How tall does it need to extend to?
Just how big is the backpack (how short when collapsed)?
Do you have a head type preference?

With this information we can provide a much better recommendation that will meet your needs.

I have a question along these lines. I own a Nikon D60, and am debating between a true metal tripod of some sort when I go to Disney in December, or a Gorillapod SLR Zoom. I don't know if I'm going to be taking any pictures like some of the people I follow on Flickr (Cory Disbrow and Tom Bricker) with those beautiful long exposure night shots, but I do want to capture a couple pictures of the fireworks and I want the option to take a night shot or two if I want. Additionall, I'm leaning toward the Gorillapod as I'm going down in a small group, and so I can take pictures of us using a remote.

Any opinions? Should I get a full metal tripod, or go with the Gorillapod?
