Trip thoughts 11-13 thru 11-19

Hi All.......

Just back and had a few thoughts to share. I wish I could do a trip report but work is so busy (it's almost impossible for me to be gone for a week!)

First of all--the COLD! I will NEVER go in November again. I know that the cold snap that hit was out of the ordinary BUT if there is even a CHANCE that can happen in November it's OUT for me. We looked at the 10 day forecast the day before we left and it showed a high of 75 each day and the highest percentage of rain was 20%. So we packed shorts and Tshirts! Boy did we get surprised! We NEVER wore shorts, not one day. My son went swimming in 47 degree weather because he wanted to try out the slide at the Poly so bad. The best part about it was that there was absolutely NO ONE in the pool for the 3 1/2 hours my son was swimming with his friend! Everyone kept walking by telling me how crazy they were.

I'd rather have a sweltering hot day of 95 than I would a cold, rainy day of 50--no thank you!!!

Also I was very disappointed that there were Christmas decorations and music all over! I can't handle that before Thanksgiving and really it was sort of tacky. I was not in the mood to be reminded of Christmas so early in the season. But that's just my own pet peeve. One of my favorite things about the Poly is the music, but all we kept hearing over and over was some Spanish version of the 12 days of Christmas along with various other carols.

OK besides the COLD and the premature Christmas stuff all was well. It was not my BEST trip, but one away from my worst! If I would have expected 50 degree weather I would have been prepared, but it was an unwelcome surprise, and I don't like surprises!

The lines weren't much shorter than the ones we experienced this year the first week in June. Epcot was absolutely packed in WS and it was hard to get through it due to the Food and Wine Fesival.

On a brighter note--we did get our room request for Raratonga at the Poly and that was perfect because it was only a short run from the pool to the room in the FREEZING COLD! (Did I happen to say it was freezing cold???) :)

We did meet a great CM from Tomorrowland named Brian (who we found out later was transferred to monorails) and he told my son he got 999,999 on Buzz Lightyear. So of course we had to try for it and my son did it! We tried to find Brian later as it was very important to him to tell him about the accomplishment but to no avail. (We did ask him for his last name but he was reluctant to give it so it was hard to find out for sure where he was) Strange?

Anyway, the luau at the Poly was nice. The fire guy dropped his sticks twice. I'm sure he kicked himself after that.

We had the best time in China. They have these neat things called "Magic Stix" that my son loved. We spent about an hour there learning how to use them and playing around. We also saw acrobats and met some great CMs there.

Besides that nothing much spectacular happened. I guess the weather just really dampened much of the magic for me.

I hate hearing bad trip reports, but at least you were able to see a few bright spots.

I see your son is a Polar Bear club cub! (crazy people who swim in frigid weather)

Sorry about the cold weather. FWIW, this is the first November DW and I haven't been to WDW since our honeymoon in '99 and it was never cold during the day. (At night, it got a little chilly, but we had sweatshirts, so it was fine.) This year, we have a little 5 week old daughter keeping us from going, but we'll be heading down with DW's parents in January. :)

The F&W Fest in WS does tend to kick up attendance a bit, but it's pretty well worth it, if you ask me (which you didn't ;) ).

Sorry to hear about the weather, still there's not alot you can do about that other than make the most of it (like your son in the pool) - if you're going to WDW you just gotta make sure you enjoy it.

Yes--the Christmas stuff kind of ruined the mood for me since this was NOT a Christmas trip!

One thing I forgot to mention which was WONDERFUL is that Mickey says good bye to his guests now when the MK closes. He stands up on the train loading area above the entrance and waves goodbye and says things like,

"Wow, it's been a great day but now it's time to say goodbye!"

I cried this was so touching! I'm a sap!

Since my husband and I are teachers, and of course our kids were bound by the school calendar, too, our trips to Disney have always been either in April or August. The weather in April is usually reliably warm and sunny, but August can be monsoon season! I don't like being soaking wet, and I'm sure I'd hate being cold, too. Sorry you ran into a run of bad weather!

That said, sometimes you just have to take things as they come and make the best of them. Sounds like your pool-happy son did!
