Trip Report: Oct. 29, 2008

The wife and I went on a one day jaunt to the MK/EPCOT Center during our Florida trip last week. Here are the high points.

1.) Happy Anniversary Buttons! We were unaware that such a thing existed, but when we went to guest services to change our High Tea ressie (more on that in a moment) we were given Happy Anniversary buttons (our anniversary was the day before). We've received other buttons in the past (birthday, just married) and have seen TONS of 1st Visit buttons around the park, but we never heard of Happy Annivesary buttons.

2.) High Tea at the Grand Floridian is now a "must do" on each visit. The tea, food and service were fantastic. As recommended here and by our server, the Eros tea is, by far, the best tea we've ever had....and we drink a lot of tea!!! Also, the gentleman's platter was great!!!

3.) The changes at the Haunted Mansion are great!!! We were both very excited about the new decor!!

4.) Splash M was great looking. All the effects were working and it looked amazing!!!

5.) We had never experienced Hot Dogs at Casey's before, but we will do it again!!!

6.) We enjoyed the Spaceship Earth refurb changes. The audio-animatronics were amazing life-like in their movements. Also, as I knew about the "head on cartoon" part of the refurb (though my wife didn't), I made a silly face for the camera which made the wife cry during the cartoony part of the show.

7.) Food and Wine fest was great again this year. The top food item, by far, was the beef with chimichurri sauce at the Buenos Aries booth.

8.) Crowds were larger than expected. 2 years ago, we didn't wait more than 5 mintues for any ride. This trip, however, we waited 20 minutes twice. Not that big of a deal, especially compared to summer crowds, but suprising none-the-less.

Thanks for reading.

We were at the MK on the 29th as well and we also saw TONS of 1st time buttons. I also saw a Just Married button altered to Just Engaged. Perhaps they ought to invest in some of those for just such an occasion.

With regards to the number of people - we made the same observation. We always go that week and have never seen so many people. The MK was much worse on Sat. Oct. 25. I attribute it to the reduced dollar and many of the people there were from Europe, or Wisconsin. (Wisconsin public schools have the last Thurs and Fri of October off for Teacher's Convention and many private schools have the full last week of October off, so it's common to see so many families from WI during that time.)

I too love the Spaceship Earth changes - my kids loved their faces on the cartoon bodies, and The F & W Festival had the best food we've had in many years.

Glad you had a great time, even if it was only one day!

The dollar has come back strong against almost every foreign currancy. The value of the Euro has dopped about 40% angainst the dollar over the past few months. Some of our European freinds have been discussing here on the boards.

Yes, Oct 25th was quite busy at MK, but by Tuesday everything was basically walk on except to see the Fairies.
