Well, after about 9 years, I have finally gotten a chance to go back to LA and see Disneyland. I have heard a whole bunch of talk on the additions over there. Mostly negative stuff. Of course, I always make it a point to check it out for myself before making a decision.

First off, I must say I had a wonderful time! The good defenitly outweighed the bad for me.

I went at a great time of the year, because the Christmas celebration had just begun, and favoite DL attractions had been decked up for the holidays.

We stayed at Paradise Pier, which was nice. The elevators were kinda slow, but aside from that, we didn't stay around the hotel much, so it was all good. The parks were just a walk or monorail ride away, which is always good.

But there was one thing we hadden't expected on dealing with that annoyed us through most of the trip: RAIN! Boy, of all the times to come! It rained friday and saturday all day, the first rain Anaheim's gotten since July, we heard :brick: . Because of the rain, the Christmas fireworks, the snowfalling on Main Street, and the Electrical Parade were all canceled. And, of course, when we left, the sun was shinin brighter than ever. Just our luck. Oh well, at least it drove the crowds away!

My favorite DL ride this trip was defenetly Haunted Mansion Holiday! I've heard a lot of complaining on how they changed the music or something, but I thought the whole thing was awesome! I've never had a better time at the Mansion. I hope they do this at WDW some time so East Coasters can have a chance to see this wonderful attraction.

However, once the HMH is gone. my favorite "permanent" ride is defenetly Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin. The best dark ride I've ever been on! I'm a real cartoon buff, and Toontown at DL is like a cartoon utopia! MUCH better than Toontown fair at WDW. It was great to see all the Roger Rabbit characters again, too!

Pirates of the Carribbean is also MUCH better than WDW's. When I went on it, I would have never guessed how good it was. The whole loading area next to the reastaurant, the waterfalls, and a much longer ride with many more animatronics/scenes. Fun!

We took the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour (in the rain) which was very interesting and fun. You learn a lot of inside details and stories about some of the parts all around DL, including Lillian Disney's petrified tree, Roy's non-gold spier atop Sleeping Beauty's castle, and the real skull hidden in PotC. It took about 3 hours, but it was worth it.

We also saw the less popular Great Moments w/ Mr. Lincoln and the Walt Disney Story" on Main Street, which was very well done IMO. (A great use of binatural sound for the theater presentation, like that at Sounds Dangersous w/ Drew Carey.)

Well, that's enough for tonight. I'll continue when I get the time!

Thanks for the great trip report. Can't wait to hear more. How funny of all the days for it to rain in Southern California it had to be on the weekend of your trip. Right now the weather is beautiful.

In the Walt's Footsteps tour, what did they say about the Tiki Room? Anything about Walt's affection towards it??

Thanks - and glad you had fun!!

Boy - I gotta get to Disneyland one day. One day.

TRIP REPORT: PART DOS

About the TIki Room- We did stop by in front for a bit and learned about how Walt got the idea for thge show from a mechanical bird he found. Not too much else...I bought a souviner pin with Walt at the Tiki Room, my one souvenier!

Continuing...

Its a Small World, as I have noticed with most of the other classics, is MUCH better at DL! The entire facade designed by Mary Blair, with the clock that "goes off" every 15 minutes with a small parade of characters, is really cool (especially at night!). Small World had also been "done up" for the holidays, with the dolls singing Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls along with the famous theme (Which I am sure for many is a really nice change of pace :))

More about Toontown: The place is just great. I didn't get to spend too much time there because of the rain and it closed at about 8:30, but it seems like everywhere you go there is something cool to see or play with, like the detanator at the fireworks factory, or the electricuting door at the electric factory, or the "sound effects" crates that make noises when you open them. And if I had to choose one queue to be stuck in for a long time getting on a ride, it would have to be ROger Rabbit's. I almost felt guilty just running past all the "scenes" of the queue going into the ride..its like a show in itself!

Main Street is always fun if you just give it a chance. Just stopping in a store for a while, you are sure to wind up being entertained by a barbershop quartet, or mabey a local piano player at the ice cream shop, or a jazz band at the Town Square. Same thing with New Orleans Square, where you might hear a Dixieland band comming down the street. New Orleans Square, by the way, is something I really personally enjoy, as I really like that kind of southern setting, and the jazzy, dixieland music playing everywhere. Its a real "festive" atmosphere.

TOMORROWLAND! ....well, there's always some downsides to a good theme park... I guess the place just needs something new. Obviously one of the harder places to keep up-to-date, theres a lot of familiar attractions here that get, well, kinda old after you've seen them a few times, even over at WDW. Star Tours and HISTA are kinda begging for replacements. And it really shouldn't be that hard to replace a simulator and a 3D show.... and they should have never gotten rid of COP. I mean, even if it was an old show, Innoventions really doesnt make up for anything. I can see the Imagineers tried to do something kinda new for Tomorrowland here, bringing some of the more "realistic" views of the future over from Epcot, and even adding a nice tribute to COP with the Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow theme, but I think they could have done it much differently, like mabey have the whole thing a "house of Innoventions" like at Epcot, which is something I always enjoy there. They could update the house every now and then with new gadgets or what not.

The new Autopia, however, looks pretty neat. The fact that I already have a driver's licence kinda keeps me from enjoying it as much, I always love to see younger kids driving parents around in the slick little Autopia cars.

Fantasyland has a ton of attractions compared to WDW. ALong with Snow White, Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Mad Tea Party, they have Casey Junior Train, Storybook Land boat ride, Matterhorn, Pinnocio's Daring Journey, Alice in Wonderland, and for all you Disney purists out there, the classic Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! I wanted to see Alice in WOnderland, as I heard it was one of the more "up to date" fantasyland rides, but unfortunately, it was being rehabbed, along with the Matterhorn, which I STILL havent been on, and the Carousel, which I guess is being refurbished for DL's 50th.

The monorail at DL is really more of an attraction than a way to get around, unless you just can't walk to DD, but we still used it sometimes. It would take just as much time for us to walk there than use the monorail, though, plus it is always more fun to enter the park the way you were meant to, through the tunnel and into Main Street. But the monorail ride does have a nice (long!) "flyover' of Tomorrowland.

More to come!....

Sell me that pin!!! I want it!! :D

As for COP, it really does fit more in WDW. Or should I say "did". When project Gemini takes place, I don't think it will, but the whole outlook of the COP was later expanded to Walt's future city, EPCOT - which brought the American family to a world of progress, and therefore, it really would have fit more. It would be a great addition to EPCOT, but it seems like it won't anymore if they're going to ruin the park with this new project I've heard about. It's sick.

So Tomorrowland in either MK or Disneyland is fine. If they move it back to Disneyland, I might just have to move to CA...cause they have the Tiki Room too. But wait!! What about the CBJ!!

Oh, help me!! :brick: :hammer:

TRIP REPORT: PART TRES

Before we move on to DCA, one more thing about DL...Indiana Jones! Defenetly one of the best rides in the park (and most popular...I heard that when it opened, the line was all the way back to Main Street!....and with the gigantic queue inside the actual building, that would make a very long wait!) We all get to somewhat experience this ride at WDW with Dinasoar, which as most of you know has the exact same track as Indy, and instead of a boulder, a T-Rex lunges at you. But Indy is defenetly better than Dinosaur, IMO. There is just so much more to see in the ride. Its not as dark as Dinosaur, and the room with the giant statue-face-thing is nuts!! Fire, zapping, snakes...its really cool.

The really nice thing about the 2 parks is the distance between the 2. One is just a short walk away from the other. Between the parks is this "central hub" area, which is cool, because on one side is DL, on the opposite side is DCA, and on another side is Downtown Disney. It is really nice to have this sorta thing in front instead of a big parking lot!

DCA....well, what can I say? Its not worth going to by itself...I defenetly prefer using the park hopper pass. Its always nice to see something new, and with DL such a short distance away, you dont have to worry about the lack of attractions here.

Hollywood Pictures Backlot is pretty much Disney/MGM studios slimmed down into one street. Muppets 3D and Millionare are both coppied from WDW, but they are two of my favorite Disney attractions.

And the Disney Animation area has a lot more to offer than MGM's, even though it lacks an actual working animation studio. The lobby is cool, surrounding you with scenes from famous Disney animated films projected on big screens. They have the One Man's Dream movie here, which will probably stay untill Walt's 100 celebration at WDW is over. I think the theater its in will be showing different films each year or so, probably to promote upcomming animated films. There is the Sorcerers Workshop, with some fun interactive things, like dubbing your voice into classic Disney movies, and the Beast's library, where you can find out which Disney character you are most like (I was Aladdin). Then there is the other show (I forget its name), I dont think they have this at WDW...it stars Mushu along with a "Disney animator" who toether give insight on how an animated movie is made. It is kind of an updated version of the one with Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite at WDW (which I though was supposed to go to DCA, too. Mabey they just replaced it with this new one?)

Hyperion Theater, unfortunately, was closed for rehab. They are currently setting up for the next show, Aladdin. I have heard a lot of good things about the Hyperion Theater show, so it should be one of the best productions at DL!

Paradise Pier was ok. Sometimes its nice to get out of the heavy theming for a change, and just go on rides. I liked California Screaming, and the swinging Ferris Wheel cars were something completely new to me. Since it was raining most of the time, most of the Paradise Pier rides were closed til Sunday. Mullholland Madness was alright, although not very long and not very detailed. But I like mouse coasters.

Golden Dreams was a nice movie, and a good show to get out of the rain. I liked the face on the statue effect with Whoopi, too.

Soarin over California is my pick for the best original ride at the park! It seems so simple, but a very different klnd of experience. And you get to smell oranges, too!

Grizzly River Run is a good example of a good "raft" ride. Much better than Kali River Rapids at AK, although there isn't much scenery to see on the ride. No animatronics or anything, just a really wet experience.

If I think of anything else, Ill post it later!
