Trip Report: Caribbean Beach

Okay Gang! We're Baack!
29 June - 6 July. What a great trip! The reason this (and a few other reports to follow) is delayed is that when we got home, we found out the water heater had died, so we have been dealing with water damage and the insurance company since. Sigh :brick:

I do have some things to post about subjects as diverse as FastPass abuse, "deferred maintenance" at the parks, etc. and I will do so as time allows over the next week. But I thought I'd start with some thoughts about the the Caribbean Beach, which some of you had asked for comments on. Here goes.

As background: on our last three trips we stayed at Dixie Landings and loved it ( no I will not be PC and call it Riverside!). This was our first stay at the CB and we did it purposely to try something different. My first observation is this: given the choice, of the moderates, I'd choose DL (forgive me, PO:R) over CB. My wife and son agree with this.

Why: CB is too large. The food court is too small to handle the crowds. Check-in was unimpressive. The Custom House is way too small for its purpose ( compared to Riverside). The Captain's Tavern is okay, but not as good as Boatwright's. The bus ride back (and out) can be a pain because of the number of stops. From a personal standpoint, I favor the manicured and genteel look of Riverside to the "wild" lush look of CB.

That said: the rooms and fittings are identical! Roomwise, there is nothing to choose between them. The room we had, Barbados 1563, was just fine thank you. I had read the horror stories in some of the guides; They did not pan out. Our room was fine in every respect. Even the TV was new. We were a nice 5 - 6 minute walk from the food court, and fairly convenient to the bus stop. But for ultimate convenience, I'd recommend asking for a room in Martinique 24 or 25. ( We didn't ask for a specific building because my son said "Ah, come on, see what we get")

CB plusses: if you like pools and the beach, they are great here. The opportunities for boating and biking ( and jogging) are lovely. The Captain's Tavern is fine as a sit down restaurant (try the shrimp!) once or twice. The selection of bathing suits at the shop was great.

Okay. I hope this helps. Bottom line; I'd gladly stay at CB again, but it wouldn't be my first choice among the moderates. That will continue to be Riverside.

I only wish my financial advisor and chief comptroller (my wife) would let me start comparing the Deluxe resorts!

I love CBR! :D

I feel for you. My dad and his g/f went up north a couple of weeks ago for the weekend. When they got back to her house, the whole bottom floor was in about an inch or 2 of water, due to the washing machine hose busting. Major damage throughout the whole house. She's been doing the same thing you have.

I cannot wait to hear what you have to say about this! It is unbelievable the number of people that are soooo quick to get FastPass! I always use the rule, "if the standby time is less than 30 minutes - WAIT!"

When I was there in June, the wait time for Primivel Whirl was 10minutes and people were getting FastPass!
