Trip Report 8/15-23

Hi all, just returned the other day and thought I would share a little bit about our trip.

We checked into the Beach Club fairly early (about 10am). Much to our surprise, our beautiful, lagoon/Boardwalk view, corner room was ready! So, we dropped off our luggage and headed for the Studios. Grabbed Fastpasses for RNR and headed over to ToT (quick 15 minute line). Had lunch at the Sci-Fi (good, but still think that menu needs to be revised). Dinner a little later on at Primetime, great time, the CM's were exceptional and a lot of fun.

I won't get into great day to day detail, so I will stick to the expectional and not so exceptional aspects of our trip.

We found the Cast Members amazingly friendly and helpful, more so then on past trips... the only bump in the road was using our Magical Wishes features (we were on the Discovery Magic package). When I called to make our PS arrangements, I was asked if we would be on any package that included meals, when I knew we would be using the features, I mentioned it. All in all it worked very well, we had some great meals and once again, found the the restaurant cm's to be amazing, friendly, helpful, etc. There just seemed to be some sort of lack of communication regarding how the meals would be paid for. Sometimes, we would be asked when we checked in at the podium, other times when our server approached us, but more often than not, no one ever asked. If we remembered, we mentioned it before we ordered anything (we started to do this as the norm towards the end of our trip). What it boiled down to was the CM being somewhat miffed that we didn't mention it, or the podium not alerting them. I can understand the frustration on their part, but I would think that it would be up to them to inquire if a party is using any meal plans (since there a few), as opposed to the travelers pointing it out...

Lunch at Alfredo's was superb (albeit a little too much food for lunch)... Portobello Yacht Club was our favorite. We had a PS at Cinderella's castle one night at 8:20, however, we didn't get seated till 9:20pm, at 8:45 when I asked about the wait time, I was told they were just starting to seat the 8:10 PS's... that was the longest we had to wait for any PS during our trip, so, we didn't mind so much. Although we felt rushed through our dinner and were in and out in about 45 minutes.

Went to 2 E-Ride nights, first one 8/16, it was great! Small crowd, zero wait times... exactly what I envisioned an E-ride night to be... BUT on 8/20... it was a waste! Hours were 8:30-11:30, we arrived at about 9:30 and stayed till the end, lines were long, it felt like a regular day (well, almost)... we would have done better early in the day and w/fast passes. Very disappointing, but glad we had great experience on 8/16.

We also rented a car, it made life so much easier, especially when we headed over to other resorts. It will be hard to go back to taking the buses, I admit. When we decided to drive to the parks, our timing was great as the walk to the front entrance was minimal, never took the trams once!!

Also, single riders on TT is the way to go! Although, the times we went on the ride, the stand-by line was never more than 30 minutes.

Ok, I will end here as I know this is a little long winded, but if anyone has any specific questions, I will be happy to try to answer!!

Have a great day!!

sounds like your feet hurt. I love the prime time cafe. My wife and I got married at WDW and had our first lunch there and they gave us extra special attention. Picking on me constantly

My feet have finally recovered! I came this close to renting one of those motorized cars to drive around the last couple of days... but refrained... lol...

Primetime was great, "mom" put a bib on my fiance and I had to stand in the corner, it was the best time!

OK, now I understand! Although I'm now confused as to why it's called a priority seating if it took so long to seat you! My god, what's the alternative like.

Which restaurant would you recommend? Cinderella's castle?
It's our wedding anniversary while we are in Orlando and would like to treat the wife to a nice meal. What would you suggest?

There were some restaurants where I almost felt silly telling the CM at the podium we had a PS, since some of the places we ate were just about empty. But my feeling is, always better safe than sorry. We also had no problem changing our times and restaurants if the original PS times weren't going to work. Thank goodness the Castle was the only instance which we had the long wait. I think it is due to simply the popularity of the restaurant. While the setting is beautiful and unique, we didn't think the menu was outstanding, if you can, I would try to include it in your plans (just for the experience).

If money is no object, I would definitely try Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian, it is very special place. Impeccable food and service, it is truly a "dining event". Not to mention EXTREMELY romantic!!

We are now huge fans of the Portobello Yacht Club, it is nice atmosphere, cm's know their stuff, we are still talking about our dinner there. We were not disappointed, the Australian lobster tail is amazing!!!

We also had dinner at Jiko (at the Animal Kingdom Lodge). Food was excellent and great service, if you are looking for something different, this may be the place, not too many children and great ambience.

I hope this helps you out a little bit... have a wonderful time!!!

we had the same problem at the castle. I made 9:30 PS to see the fire works and we didn't get seated till almost 11. missed out on half the e-night. we were rushed. it was our honeymoon. now we could have lived with it but then our server said "since this is your honeymoon we usaually give out champaign fluts, but since it's late we ran out of our allotment for the day". the food was good though. so the next day we went to guest services to complain. they called the manager over there and wanted us to come back as his guest. we said ok wednesday, he got us PS for 8:20. we went back, we didn't get in till about 9:15 or so, they gave us the best seat in the house, center window, we saw the fireworks, and got our champaign fluts. after our meal the manager came out and gave us dinner on the house. we did leave a nice tip though. I would reccomend the castle anytime

favorite places to dine

50's prime time
sci fi
brown derby
cinderellas castle
chef mickeys breakfast
cape may cafe breakfast
Fultons crab house in downtown disney
Mexico in epcot
alfredos in garden grill in the land in epcot
Coral Cafe in the dolphin

those are my favorites. there is so many places I haven't ate yet. we plan to try at leas 2 or 3 new places next time we go I want to try ohanas, aunt polys, shululas steak house in the dolphin, spoodles on the board walk and the numerious resturants in epcot we have yet to try. I always look foward to my next trip down.
