trip report 1-22-13 to 1-28-13 -just got back

this is my 5th trip to Disneyworld
children are age 8, 7 & 4

ive gone 3x in Sept and 2x in late Jan/Early Feb

we always stay at the same place (riverside).....prices went up $800 this year...it would be nice if i could up the prices my business charges by 20% in 1 year.....but obviously it isnt hurting them ..they were the busiest ive seen

we asked for the new wrist bands....nope we were told...didnt see any of them....they did have new card readers that seemed to work most of the time...they acted up for people and delayed the lines pretty much everytime we stood in line to get into a park

day 1 1-22-13
Magic Kingdom---very busy.....more than normal crowds....only spent 3 hours
dined at the Wave....ive eaten there every year....ive had 3 good meals and 2 bad...this one was bad...the steak was good, but the potatoes/squash it comes with tasked like all squash....yea it was healthy, but was not good....kids also had bad meals(little did i know this was something new w/ Disney)

day 2 1-23-13
magic kingdom---got up early, got in line early....went right for the fast pass for the new little mermaid ride and then waited in line for 1 hour for the bell storytime.....1 hour wait and this was 10 mins after the park opened....the waiting line was somewhat boring..not much to see or do...kids went crazy.....the mirror opens into a door...very nice effects....me and my son spent a good chunk of the show trying to figure out how the candle moved so well....it was very impressive....the show really wasnt...i was dissapointed...very short....not much action for the kids to do....i liked the old show much better.....not something id ever do again

went right over to the little mermaid ride....fast pass was worthless...there was no line....the ride looks like its 20 years old.....peter pan is much better.....about as bad as nemo....i was shocked that this was their 'new' ride....there's nothing in it that says 2013....looks like they put no effort into it

got in line for 45 minutes to eat lunch at the beasts castle.....got to the menu and was horrified at what they had for kids....absolutely nothing any of my kids would eat...everything was 'multi grain' or something else healthy....my kids each ordered 3 different things....we threw out all 3 meals...they all starved and wined....it just looked horrible too...we were starting to discover that Disney is now trying to change kids eating habits....my 8 year old son started talking about Michelle Obama and how his school meals sucked too.....'now she's doing it here' he said....i had the steak sandwich....it was cold......the ordering process was different too....we got placed behind some elderly people....and sat for 15 minutes while they figured it out...

park got very busy again in the afternoon.....

day 3: Epcot

park was slow all day overall

test track....ran there at park opening and easily got in........nothing great....im glad not to have to sit through that beginning movie again...i thought it was horribly stupid....ikids enjoyed designing the car....1 kids design didnt transfer into the car....he wasnt happy....so the card readers arent perfect.....i am glad for the changes, but its nothing special.....somethings were stupid, but less stupid than the original

we checked out the inoventions area...weve been in there before, but they are typically horrible...trying to push some education thing on a kid who's not there to learn....they had something new!!!...you make your own ride and then put the card into a robotic machine and climb in and it moves and acts out your ride....very cool

went to soarin and got fast passes.....then got fast passes later on for TT......at the end of the day i found out there's new Fast pass rules for 2013.....when the time is up they dont honor it.....i went to a manager and got angry.....the family had to sit in line for soarin for 1 hour....hard concrete floor(why?)....there video game didnt work...everyone was jumping and moving trying to make it work....but it didnt seem to work for anyone....it sucked....sitting on a hard floor for 1 hour.....it would be nice to have something to do or look at....or have a bench....carpet would be nice.....kids fought the whole time....a very long hour.....i was steaming at the change for the fast pass

its not like Magic Kingdom where you get a fast pass for thunder mountain and then just go on some nearby ride until its time.....there are NO rides around TT or Soarin to spend 1-2 hours...you end up a mile away and have to run back for your ride....hard to do with a 4 year old with sore feet....

over all i think they could tear down Epcot and not many would notice...this park is boring for anyone under 65....they have a couple of rides...only 2 that are good....they push some hippie idealism of the future from 1978.....id tear down 1/2 the park and add rides

day 4: Hollywood studio

ran at opening to get the 8 year old in Jedi training...got in easily....
got in at tower of terror easily and aerosmith too....
park was slow

got a Fast pass for toy story....problem was it was for 20 minutes before our dinner reservation...it really made me angry with the fast pass.....your in a park where everything is a show and has times....then you have to make a fast pass work into that schedule....well what if it doesnt:?...should i just sit at Toy story for 1 hour until the start time works into my schedule??? this new idea was horribly irratating...

Day 5: Animal Kingdom

slow most of the day

rode the Yetti ride for the 1st time ever...very shocking, but good

day 6 & 7 went to Magic Kingdom

slow in the morning, but horribly busy in the afternoon....everyone spoke spanish everywhere
spent some time in the new kiddie area....wow, what a waste of money for Disney....(2) Dumbo's...not a bad idea....new play area inbetween them was so-so.....i liked the old area better...i just dont see where this new circus idea adds anything to the experience....they didnt add any rides really...just made it look different...i liked mickey and mini's house better than the new area......i think they made a mistake and wasted money

Overview:
over all i was bored...kids enjoyed it of course.......we have gone to DW so many times now that we even remember the workers...in some cases we even know where the workers came from!!....we can recite all the disney recordings for every ride.....we dont go to any shows anymore because were sick of them....just the rides

most of our meals were poor......we found ourselves searching for meals the kids would eat and deciding on the restaurant based upon it....also had several waiters admitt the kids hate the new meals and offered to make something custom for the kids.....

our hotel breakfast was the worst ever.....day 1 had (3) burnt mickey waffles(which appeared to be multigrain)...kids didnt eat them....in the garbage they went....kids starved again.....me and the wife had some large optioned pancake breakfast.....pancakes were cold...eggs were horrible...we found ourselves skipping breakfast or just buying doughnuts......

also prices seemed 25% higher in the parks.....breakfast was $40-45...for junk....hot dog meals were $9.50....it reminded me of sea world or 6 flags....i always thought Disneys prices were more real world in the past.....i thought lunches were $6-6.50.....maybe i dont remember anymore

we decided this would be the last year to do the disneyworld thing.....yea we will still go to Florida and maybe sspend 1 day at MK....but no longer spend $5,000 for the Disneyworld experience...its not worth it....not after 5x.......

20% price increase, crappy meals, forcing healthly meals on my kids=starving them, rides w/ broken features for years, new rides with old technology.....still the people come in droves....just not my family again

If you don't mind me saying, it sounds as though you did'nt do your homework properly (the fast pass rule change has been in place for a while now).

yes they told me the fast pass rule was in effect for almost a year, so it must have happened right after the last vacation we went on

i will add a few more things

bus's....it was good for every park, but in the morning it was horrible for MK.....my family knows to get near to where the bus's load when we arrive....but some people sit back and try to form a bulky line..there is no line...so these people sit....every time we went to MK there were 50+ people for the bus....our stop was the last stop...only 10-15 people made it on to the bus....i joked to my wife that these polite people will sit for an hour and people will keep getting ahead of them while they hover at the back....i even heard a mom say outloud 'all these people are getting ahead of us'....my thought 'why are you standing in the back then, why not stand at the curb where the bus doors open'...this area was always open and my family and others just went there and were always able to get on the bus.......my tip for others....stand near the bus if you expect to get on the bus.....my tip for Disney....double your bus's to MK for 2013..everyone wants to go there

i was irritated that the bridge on the safari ride still isnt working....i think its worked 2x out of the 5x we went...i spent $5k on this trip.....$3,800 directly to Disney.....cant they fix these things in a weeks to a months time? should it just stay broken for 2-3 years???....those 'little' special things are what makes Disney special...the little details...w/o them its just another safari ride...could be anywhere....only at Disney would they have a bridge that feels like its falling down...

i always thought everything at disney looked brand new/fresh...this time i noticed peeling and blistering paint at places (tomorrow land)......things just dont look as good as i remember (or else because i was board i looked around in detail more)

ok the good stuff:
rides were fun: Dino was even more scary than i remembered...good job
space mtn was great (right side is jerky and will hurt your back....it was this way last year too)
thunder mt railroad was the family's overall favorite
test track was fun (they moved the camera to outside incase you like to make a face at it)
the kids liked the interactive part of test track....all of them
i always enjoy the Jaminators(epcot)...strongly recommend the show..this year they added Rap
bus's were always waiting for us leaving the park...it was 100% of the time...we got very lucky every time
best meal in MK for lunch is Pinocio's.....meat ball sub and kids pizza...lots of food and Michell Obama hasnt found out about it yet

also wanted to add we had a remodeled room at the Riverside.....it had a bed that pulled down out of the wall under the TV....instead of the one that pulled out from under the bed....my son was MUCH happier...he slept on our level instead of the floor....plus his bed was 'special' to him.....the room overall was improved....a very good use of space.....id be happy to stay in the same room again...the pull down bed is a bit too short...my 8 year old did complain his feet were off the edge...i dont know why it isnt a standard length...it would not fit an adult...i didnt understand why they didnt make it long enough since there was room...its meant for 6 year olds i guess....so if your family has all teens this bed wouldnt work well for you.

I am so sorry your trip wasn't a great one. Unfortunately, prices go up and we are all hard pressed to save as much as we would like for our vacations. I have to disagree about Epcot being teared down and that its boring to anyone under 65. I am well under 65 as is my husband and my son... we love Epcot!! Different strokes for different folks I guess. Hope your next trip is more enjoyable!

i took my kids out of school for Wee rides....the educational rides are never the busy ones....im not alone in my thinking of wanting rides.....Epcot world showcase is nice.....kids hate it, but it deserves to be there.....they add things like Kim possible and now Phinnias and Ferb to gives kids something to do there and its a great idea

im talking about the elen degeneris ride and other similar things there....just lots of wasted sq ft

and as far as prices....they dont go up 20% for anyone else.....i raise prices in my business by 3-5% a year.....if i went up 20% in 1 year id have no customers.....they do it because they can.....it hasnt effected them 1 bit...it has effected me and my choice for next years vacation....i still went this year and gave them $800 more....i changed my flights to make up (-$800).....also made it a 7 day trip instead of my typical 8 day trip

im just trying to pass on my trip to others considering Disney.....i have complaints every year about something...this year there's a bit more and most likely because i had more time to kill this year and more to think about

kids still had a great vacation....wife who loved Disney prior to the vacation says 'no more' though.....kids most likely lost weight on the first few days there....but made it back up after we made it a point to pick restaurants with normal kid menu's (my kids are fussy eaters....burger,pizza,chicken nuggets are a must have)
