trip plannig

I'm a new poster and have a question. My parents are planning a trip for September. They plan to buy annual passes as they are also planning another trip in November. They will stay at one of the All-Star resorts and are eager to book it now. But, since there may be a discount because of the annual passes, which they do not yet have, how do they get the discount, or can't they? They won't activate the annual passes until September when they arrive, but obviously it's too late at that point to book the room.

And for question number 2, would it be too late to book the November vaction room in September, after they have the annual pass? Would there likely be availability?

Here's my understanding on annual passes.

You can buy them now--through the mail, on-line, at your local Disney Store, etc. You activate them when you get to WDW. You do this at the parks or DTD. This means that you can buy the pass now, in May, but the "clock" doesn't begin ticking until you activate it in Sept.

You can book the rooms with the AP discount (although I don't think those have been released yet for fall) now. You will have to show the AP when you check in to get the reduced rate.

I'm sure someone will be along with more details.............

I do have an annual pass, but I don't know if it needs to be activated to get the discount. However, when are they planning on going in November. If it isn't during Thanksgiving, then they may be able to wait till September to book. November is a pretty slow month outside of Thanksgiving week. If in doubt, call reservations and they can tell you if it will be hard to book for November in September.

I would advise them to book now, and apply any codes that may come along later. This way, you are guaranteed a room, rather than waiting 'till the last minute.

We are going in September as well, and this is what I am doing. However as has been pointed out, the codes are not out for that time period yet.

Heading for the great escape.
I can confirm that the AP does not need to be activated to make a booking using the AP discount code. Infact I may have made my reservations before i even ordered my passes. All they said was that they had to be available at check in. I activated mine at DTD on the way in from the airport.

Yes the AP does have to be activated before check in. I would have to agree with gjpjtj about booking now and applying the code later. If you have a disney club card there is a really good deal going on right now. Also for the general public there is a really good on going on with the Fairytale package.
