So we are approaching our payment due date next week, and I must decide if we want trip insurance. Our trip is planned for September 21 and we are taking the train down. Do we need the insurance if we are not flying? Do I need separate insurance for the train? There are 6 going 3 adults and 3 kids . Thanks for your help!

Just like any insurance, it is great to have if ever you need it. I have always taken trip insurance, and recently got stranded at an airport due to a flight cancellation. Using the trip insurance I was able to get a rental car, food, a refund on part of the flight and other conveniences all paid for by the insurance company. It was well worth having. I think it is best to get a quote and see how it stacks up.

We always get it because my husband has medical issues and you never know when something will happen. We booked our trip through AAA and I want to say the Disney insurance was something like $149 (I think per person but my res doesn't specify). I can't remember about the train offering insurance because it's been too many years now.

We always get it no matter where we are going. The one time we needed it we felt all the years of paying in were worth it as the vacation did not get ruined. For us it is worth the peace of mind if someone gets sick or injured that we do not have to make a tough choice.

ever since we had a relative sustain a life- and limb- threatening injury in Bermuda, and to save her, they had to rent a medical evacuation plane and pay for it themselves, I get the insurance! for a couple hundred bucks, they could have saved over $75,000.
i do not take disney insurance, i go to a website called insuremytrip.com and choose from hundreds of plans, with the ability to compare them side by side. you would be shocked how many or how few things can be included, and how cheap or expensive a plan you can get.
i am sure there are many many sites on the web where you can get the same information and purchase a plan for exactly what you need.
as said above, the peace of mind is worth it.

I always get it just in case. My second trip to disney hurricane Irene delayed my trip a whole day. I had to buy plane tickets for next day. I got refunded for the canceled flight, the day I missed and the insurance covered the new tickets I purchased.

We always get it, used it once when I was a kid and an illness ran through the neighborhood and should've used it in 08 when I had food poisoning. I toughed it out, what a flight...

I used Allianz Insurance for my upcoming trip. I believe if you buy the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit, it includes a "cancel for any reason" benefit.

We have always gotten and never needed it. However, we will always continue to get it because the FIRST time we decide to skip it.... we'll have an emergency.

I buy it for large, non-refundable things.

I did not insure my Disney trips and did have to cancel one at the last minute. The total amount lost on my end was $100 - two fees of $50 from the airline. The rest of the airline ticket money was applied to a later purchase.

Disney cancelled everything for me. And they were very nice, too. It meant a lot to me, how nice they were. It's the kind of thing you remember...how people treat you when pure in the middle of a crisis. It sticks with you later. :)

Thank you, Disney, for being efficient, helpful and kind when I needed all that!

Added it to our November trip last week - we had shopped around but Disney is by far very comprehensive and not that expensive at $75 per adult we found it to be cheaper than anything we could find on our own. We always pray we don't need the insurance but would kick ourselves that we have a crisis that could have been eased with only $150 - on a full weeks vacation it is worth it - every time.

We always get it. It's cheap enough and you never know if a medical emergency might come up. I wouldn't want to loose all my airfare money and such.
