I am trying to put together a short trip in January probably 5 days second week. I've only gone to Disney in May. What can I expect with weather? crowds? etc..... Thanks for all the suggestions :-)

Depends where you're from......it was in the 50's at night when we were there last in January, but for people from Wis/Min that feels like a heat wave. We were still in shorts.

Remember that we were probably well BELOW zero by that point of the year :)

I was there with gypsygirl113 New Years' 2002. Fortunately we had our winter coats and were fine.

The week after we left it was in the 70's. Check the weather on line obsessively before you go.

Be prepared for anything.
Be prepared to swim, or not swim
Remember that gloves and a hat do not take up much room in your suitcase or in your coat pocket, and can make the difference between being miserable and comfortable.

(they do sell gloves & hats in the park--I think gloves were $6. You know the WDW deal--you can buy anything you need, but it'll cost ya!!)

Crowds are a non-issue in Jan. I think they moved the marathon back a week, to the 12th. We were there marathon week and didn't notice much impact on the park attendance.

I was in WDW January 11-16 1999 and it wasn't empty. Maybe it was the week we went, but there were large Brazilian tour groups (with flags). I don't ever remember seeing so many groups. The weather is iffy. Prepare for all types of weather. I speak from experience, for 15 years my family would drive to Florida for Christmas vacation to visit Grandparents and we always stopped at Disney. It was always cool sometimes cold! Fortunately, we always had warm coats with us because we drove from cold weather. There is a reason why resort pools close for rehabs as well as some of the water parks. Remember to ask your hotel if the pool is being rehabed at this time. The Wilderness Lodge's pool was closed in January 99 so we stayed at the Boardwalk Villa's instead. I personally go to WDW to see the parks but with children a pool is a must. Kids will swim regardless of the temperature, but the pools are heated so its not an issue. I think going when the weather is cool/cold is much better then when its hot.
