Trip 2014

Well, now that the new year is behind us, my family is gearing up for our 2014 visit. We've narrowed it down to either July or September. My vote is for September as we've been to WDW once in September and it was by far one of our best visits. Although we visited in July 2012 and that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
We recently called WDW reservations to get package pricing. Next, we'll be going to our local AAA office to get their ticket prices. Then we'll call back to WDW to get room-only prices. Got to make sure we get the most for our money.
My next task is to read more on the FP+ system. Can anyone point me to the latest info on FP+?

I would definitely recommend going in September, the weather is usually not as intense, as well as the parks are no where near as busy as they are in July. If you go towards the later part of the month, you can go to MNSSHP as well as the Food and Wine Festival. Also, they usually offer free dining in September so that may be something you are interested in. As for FP+, the easiest way is to just look at the Disney website. It pretty much covers it.

I am hoping that the September dates work out. It would be the last full week, I think.
Research on packages vs separate purchases and the FP+ system continues. :)

July and September are pretty much identical weather-wise. Hot, humid, lots of days with rain in the afternoons/evenings. Weather-wise, I might actually pick early July over September. It's a toss up, either way.

If you wait until kids are back in school, you'll see fewer crowds, but September is not what I'd call a "low crowds" time. Some people do say that, though. It's a bit of a subjective thing, I guess.

September has Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The first party was held on September 10 last year. :)

There is an entire section of this forum dedicated to FPP, My Magic, the wristbands, all that jazz. :) http://forums.wdwmagic.com/forums/using-mymagic-fastpass-and-my-disney-experience.135/ The information changes all the time, so check back for updates!

Well, we've experienced WDW in July and September. The most recent was July 2012 and the September trip was in 2005. September was probably one of my favorite trips. Very low crowds. The July trip was very do-able meaning we were able to do everything that we wanted and then some.

One of my biggest concerns right now is navigating this new FP+. With the legacy FP no longer available by the time we go, our options after our 3 FP+ are used is to stand in lines. September would not be an issue as much as July for the wait times. As I am reading about FP+ I'm not liking it too much. Maybe the experience will change my mind.

Also, for this next trip, we will be celebrating our daughter's HS graduation PLUS mine and my wife's wedding anniversary.
Is there anything that we can do/ask for that would make this trip extra special?

I definitely vote Sept! especially now that the July ADRs are opening up. I would suggest a floral delivery to your room for your anniversary, along with a nice dinner.
I would make sure your daughter gets the graduation mickey ears with her name on them. And maybe an in room celebration or dinner of her choice.
Maybe the wishes dessert party or a firework cruise.

I would splurge on the Dessert Party at MK if your family likes sweets. It guarantees you a great spot to see Wishes and the dessert options are plentiful and very tasty.

Along with your new years agenda, I have decided with a new year that we needed a new Disney trip. We are going May 24th....the day after my kids finish school. Just scheduled this trip last week!

I agree with a September visit. Although the weather in September and July are almost identical...hot hot hot....humid humid humid, the crowds are thinner in September so that makes the weather more bearable. We were in the World last September and the weekday crowds were low and weekends were quite heavy. This year...2014, we are going in November. Staying off sight for the first time in our lives. My daughter and son in law have a Marriott Timeshare so were booked a 3 bedroom suite. This will be a trip to remember....my granddaughter will be 20 months old and it is her first trip!!!!!!!:cat:

The last time we went was my brother and sister-in-law's anniversary. We were eating at BOG that night, and I ordered a cake from the WDW bakery online and had it delivered as a surprise. The cake was slightly pricey (I went for a Beauty and the Beast decoration with a personalized message), but it was delicious. One warning... if you are on the dining plan, the cake does not count as a dessert. We ended up eating the cake and getting our dining plan desserts to go. We also got a plate of "The Grey Stuff" that night. So much delicious sweet stuff.

Oh boy. Things have made a big turn for us. We're def going in Sept, but we have reduced our WDW stay and are including a 3-day Disney Cruise on the Dream.
Now, I'm a little nervous as we have never been on a cruise but we decided to go for it as we will be celebrating multiple events at one time...our daughter graduating HS, our wedding anniversary, my birthday and our very first cruise!! Wow. Now I need to research and learn the ins and outs of the DCL.
