Treasure Planet a Success on Video

Treasure Planet, which sold more than 1 million combined DVD and VHS units during its first day in release last week, took the #2 slot in DVD sales during the same frame, according to preliminary results from VideoScan's First Alert point-of-sales tracking service. However, Planet topped VideoScan's First Alert VHS sales chart for the same week ending April 29. Planet, marketed as a sell-through release, debuted at #10 on Video Store's weekly rental chart, earning an estimated rental revenue gross of $2.74 million during its first five days on rental shelves.

I'm glad it's doing well. It really deserved to do better at the box office than it did. If it had only been a Summer release instead of being released in November or whenever it would have done much better.

They moved it to November because Star Wars Episode II opened in May 2002 and they thought people would be all spaced out after that, so Treasure Planet was moved.
