Traveling with Tripod - Backpack / TSA Issues

Hi everyone,

Now that I have a nice arsenal of tools ready for WDW (march '11) I really need a new tripod. My old trusty one broke on me and its been years since I have even looked at one.

I don't need anything on a professional level... no full frame camera with massive telephoto here.

How do people here travel with their tripod? Recommend any brands? Anything that is not cheaply made and targeted as "travel" which typically means it sucks?

Ideally, Id like a photo backpack that will hold my D80, a 50mm 1.8, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, and my cheap 17-135mm. The key feature, is maybe a slot in the rear, or some sort of bungee system that would allow me to strap the tripod down.

Any suggestions would be massive!

I am just a novice when it comes to cameras and stuff, but for my 2012 trip I have 2 video cameras, tapes and dics, batteries AND A TRIPOD in a regular backback! If you are worried about TSA, just pack the backack in your checked luggage or call TSA and get their advice!
I may breakdown and buy just a single pole tripod for the cameras as it might be easier to pack!?

Velbon make a lot of good compact tripods. I've had a couple for years and they have performed well. I know they are popular amongst over users here as well.

Lowepro Flipside 300 is a good bag to look at for what you need.

My Velbon actually just broke... the center shaft broke from the mounting section
