We will be traveling to Disney with a dance group in November of this year. Because it is the performing arts group, we had to go through a travel agent for our reservations. Since we are going over Thanksgiving, we want to make dining reservations as soon as possible. The travel agent is telling us that we will not get a reservation number until 6 weeks before the trip. We do Disney every year, as we are DVC members, and have always planned our own trips. Any ideas?

You don't need a reservation number to make dining plans unless you are trying for the BoG FP option.

That sounds really weird to me? U should be able to have it right away if u r booked? I would call Disney and tell them your travel agent for the trip for some reason will not give u your reservation code to book dining and FPs. In sure once they confirm your identity, they will give it to u...ya I think that sounds shady???

Then unless there is some weird third party thing that your travel agent is dealing with (eg. having to book with other agency and not directly with Disney) there is no reason that they can not give you a Disney reservation number for every room you have booked.
When I was a Disney TA I got that number the second the reservation was booked regardless of how large the party was or how many rooms were booked.
I would explain the situation to your TA and if they ca not provide the reservation numbers or will not do your dining reservations for you, I would demand to know why.

You do to book them for your length of stay. Otherwise you would have to call back every day until your trip was booked.

Thanks. We called Disney- and we need to call group tours tomorrow. So, that's what we are going to do. I'm beginning to wonder if he has even booked our rooms yet. This TA is one that books Disney Performing Arts groups. So, I'm hoping he is reputable... I think he had not kept up with the new stuff and that's a problem

I would get an individual reservation number for each room.
They might do things a little differently with the Disney Performing Arts groups, but it has been my experience that they all have to go through the same system and will get the same numbers.

First, there is a main group number, i.e. GO123456 or something similar. Anyone calling into groups would need that number to reference the specific group.
Within that group, someone should be able to give the group leader a Pickup Report, that shows each reservation for the group.
The agent should be able to get that list.
Only once (and that was when I dealt with a runDisney group), I had to wait for the Pickup List of individual reservation numbers.
