Traveling to watch NFL from WDW?

Hey guys,

I'm traveling over again this year from the UK (October) and really want to go and watch an NFL game (guessing the bucs would be the easiest to do), I've been to the games that keep coming over to London but i want to experience a true American atmosphere.

We don't rent a car when we come over and tend to use taxis to go to non-disney parks, is there any way of me going to watch a game?

Thanks for any help

Short answer: not easily.

Tampa is over an hour away, with no mass transit connecting it to Orlando. Could theoretically catch a train to Miami, and a cab to the stadium, but I imagine you might end up spending the night in Miami.

Thank you for the help Jason, guessing the only other option is to hire a car for a day or two and drive over to Tampa?

That's certainly the best option. The stadium is a little over an hour away, maybe 90 minutes with traffic. Fairly easy drive, tho, mostly just straight down I-4. If you're budgeting, keep in mind parking fees are ridiculous--it's been a couple years for me, but probably $40-$50 easily.

Glad you want to see an American football game. Personally, NFL games are actually better on TV. They are extremely overpriced to go to one live. $100+ for a ticket, $25 or more for parking, $8-$10 for a beer, $15-$30 for food. Budget about $250 just for 1 person to go.

So very true..and sad...if you really want the true American football experience come on up to Jersey, wear a Patriots jersey to a Jets game and soak in the fun....now that's an E ticket

When are you coming again? I will assume you're going to wait until the next NFL season to catch the Bucs, right?

We are over for the first two weeks of November, so it will be next season. I was initially hoping to go to a Dolphins game (as they're the team I follow weekly) but i am already catching them when they come over against the Raiders, so thought I'd try and catch the Bucs (plus its nearer).

Its a shame about the price, but its similar (if not more expensive) to watch when the games come to London...so for one trip I guess I can put up with it:)

I'm still looking to go to a game but if not at least I'll be able to watch games on tv without having to say up until the early hours like I do over here haha:D

Don't forget about the Jags in Jacksonville. Not sure if there is a way to get there from Orlando. It's about an hour and a half away from Orlando. Not sure who they will be playing the weeks you are in the US. It's just another option. NFL games are expensive but I don't think the Bucs or the Jags will cost you very much considering their records. There is nothing like going to a game and having the real NFL experience. Just FYI there is a rental car place on WDW property if you need to get a car as a last resort.

amtrak goes from orlando to tampa still doesnt it?

i live in tampa and pretty sure it does

Honestly, did not know that. In over a decade here, never heard of anyone taking it. (Not that trips to Miami are common, but I know a couple people who have done it.)

Of course, there's still the issue of getting to the Amtrak station in Kissimmee ... and more than likely given the time of year being at that Amtrak station again after dark, which I can't recommend for international guests. I still think a rental car is the only viable option.

I'd say 2+ hours from WDW (as opposed to downtown Orlando proper), having an ex-g/f in Palm Coast. That said, you could probably buy tickets for next to nothing. I think a Bucs game would be more fun, tho, with the canon and pirate motif and all.

I did the same thing before. Be careful: US cities are not like UK or Europe, with a lot of options of public transportation. I would rent a car & drive to the stadium with a GPS. I saw a Dolphins game driving from Orlando to Miami... it is like, 3 and 1/2 hours going and other 3 returning, but... there's a lot of things you can do if you stay in Miami one night.

Do a search for shuttle companies that run van shuttles between the cites. I'm not sure how close they can get to the stadium on game day, they could pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off. Amtrak runs a train from Orlando to Tampa, and that would work to get you to Tampa, but it is not scheduled to arrive in Tampa till 12:34, to close if kickoff is at 1:00pm. The issue is getting back, the train leaves a 5:17pm, about one hour after the game ends. How close the station is to the stadium I don't know. Good luck, going to a game is an experience. If you have any interest in a college game, the University of Central Florida plays in Orlando.
