Transparency

Ok guys, I need your expert advice. . .

I know if you want to keep transparency on a pic, you have to save it as a GIF. Is there any other format that would allow me to keep the transparency? For some reason, when I save my photoshop creations as GIF's the shadows are out of whack, and the colors aren't exact. Are there settings that would fix this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, when you save as a gif you're going to lose quality, especially in front of a transparent BG. Any form of drop shadow or outer glow will be ruined. I believe Targa is another format that supports transparency, but I could be wrong. I never use it, I'm just semi-remembering what I was taught way back in the day.

Targas and Tiffs only keep transparency when there is an alpha channel preserved in the format (thus doubling the file size)...

so Gif or PNG are your only options...

Hey, great! I didn't know about PNG and transparency. I don't want to fool with alpha channels (don't want to. . .don't know how. . .same thing), so I'll stick with PNG. I tried it, and it kept the shadow really well, so that will probably be what I use. It will go on the web won't it? Anyway, thanks for the help Now!
