Transfer Question

So I've been researching this the past few days, but I really couldn't find the answer I was looking for so I thought I would post here and get some input on it.

I know that for the WDWCP you cannot change your role. I also know that if you are a non WDWCP CM, you have to stay in a role for 6 months before you can transfer. So I just want to start off by saying that I am not looking to change my role for the CP, which in my case is Transportation.

So say I want to transfer to or from Monorails, Watercraft, or Bus Greeter during my program. Can it be done? I have heard of cases where College Program Cast Members who transferred work locations during their programs, however I understand it is very rare for that to happen.

I have found that according to College Recruiting my role, Transportation, is made up of three areas – Bus Greeter, Watercraft Operations, and Monorail Operations. Therefore, I will not be changing my College Program role I were to transfer to/from the areas that make up Transportation. In my case, wouldn't it simply be a location change, not a role change?

I personally have no idea about the specific rules here, but just thinking about the situation I would say that moving wouldn't be possible.

While you are technically under the transportation umbrella, each of those three roles is very specialized and doesn't translate to operations in another area. If you were to be cast as a waterboat captain, you wouldn't have the training necessary to become a monorail pilot without another round of extensive training. Since you are going to only be there for a relatively short time, they are probably going to train you in one area and want you to stay there.

It depends on your managers, in some areas its very easy to cross train within the area, while near impossible in others. changing roles during a CP session is usually only done due to medical issues or failing training.

It IS possible to change during your CP. I know someone in costuming who moved to Full Service F&B a couple weeks in because she absolutely hated costuming. It is possible, but only under extreme circumstances. You can also change if you extend your program.

As for moving around within the department, it does depend on management. I worked in one location for my first three months, even though others I worked with were trained in 3 or 4 different locations and I was constantly asking to be trained at other costuming locations. It's kind of luck of the draw, if there is a need in another location and if they have enough training budget to put you there. I suspect transportation is similar to costuming, in that you can be trained in multiple locations and can be working at a different place every day. My best advice is just to keep asking. And be good at the job you are assigned. I hated working in characters but was kept there 4 months straight, as soon as I started to enjoy it, they moved me elsewhere. It's odd like that.
