MEMORANDUM

TO: The St. Lawrence Community

FROM: President Daniel F. Sullivan

RE: William O'Brien '06

DATE: June 12, 2003

On June 10, a member of the Class of 2006, William B. (Will) O'Brien,
passed away as a result of an accident in his hometown of Newton,
Massachusetts. The racing bicycle Will was riding collided with a van,
and although he was wearing a helmet, it was not enough to protect him
from injury.

A graduate of Newton North High School, where he was a member of the
varsity cross country and cross country ski teams, Will is survived by
his parents, Christopher O'Brien and Karen Howard '75, of Newton;
brothers Robert and Charles; grandparents Frank and Deborah Howard, of
Newton, and Robert and
Anne O'Brien, of McHenry, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles and
cousins.

University Chaplain Kathleen Buckley will work with Will's family and
friends to plan a service on campus in the fall, and we are talking with
his family about other ways that his contributions to the St. Lawrence
community might be remembered and memorialized.

Visiting hours in the Blackington, Conroy & Hayes Funeral Home, 1479
Washington Street (Route 16) in West Newton, will be Friday, June 13,
from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m.; the phone number is
1-800-585-6939. Friends and relatives are invited to a funeral mass to
be held in St. Bernard's Church, 1529 Washington Street, West Newton, on
Saturday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Will's family has requested that gifts be sent to
the William O'Brien Memorial Fund for the First-Year Program at St.
Lawrence.

Our deepest condolences go to his family and to all who knew and cared
for Will during his time at St. Lawrence.
